Re: What do you do in the real world?
IMO funk rock, latin rock, classic rock... All good. Pop rock, not so much.Mountain_King wrote:I don't know, I seriously have met people who hate rock. As in, every single kind. Though that could just be because they have no musical taste (I can't say).Crow_T wrote:I have to say, "hating jazz" would be like saying you "hate rock," jazz is pretty varied from corny garden variety jazz to crazy experimental stuff. Although musical tastes really differ widely from each other; I've met people who claim to hate samba, while I've met people who listen exclusively to it. It's like anything, you can like it, or hate it. But that doesn't stop it from being interresting.
Anyway, my favorite music is latin jazz and charlie parker era bebop-ish stuff. With a little funk/latin rock thrown in there for good measure.
Re: What do you do in the real world?
I guess I'll share as well. My current full-time job is tech support (iPhone specialist) for a major cellular network provider, so I get to tell people to reset their network settings a few dozen times per day. (slight exaggeration... but only slight) That's just me biding my time until August when I ship off to Mississippi with Americorps. After that, I'm not sure what my career goal should be, but I'm strongly considering becoming an [acronym=what most people would call a "paramedic"]EMT[/acronym].
It's spelled "definitely", not "definately". "Defiantly" is a different word entirely.

Hi !
IRL, I'm the lead programmer at a small software company (healthcare domain). Aside BfW, I play (classical) organ, and I'm interested in what's related to human spiritual and psychological behavior (including religion of course, and... why we are playing battle games !). Am I a christian ? Well, probably, but a queer one. Probably because I studied theoretical physics in the past.
Friendly,

I forgot to mention that I do have a real job as well. I currently work in a care home for autistic children. It's only holiday work while I completed my undergrad and postgrad, but I've been there for 4 years now and worked full time last year.

I am a student of great geekness, interested in making rockets and excavator models (and bombs before). I believe I will involve in any kinds of cause which you guys are taking
Re: What do you do in the real world?
I'm jr high and am learning to make techno(logic - MPD32)(when bored lmms)
I also like programming and end up teaching my friends a lot
I love drawing manga (still leaning)
religion-If you believe in God and evolution I can simply put it this way, God rested on seventh day as an example(God doesnt need rest)
so if each day was a million years That would mean he wants us to rest a million years and God says that we shouldnt be idle but work so it contradicts
Im not an expert on it but There is no doubt in my mind evolution is false
(especially after learning about cells and biology in science class)
for example if you are 1 cromaszone of at birth you'll most likely die, so by the time we learned to have the right amount of cromazones we would be dead
also if you believe people evolve you would also believe computers can evolve as they are much more simple than humans
back to myself i play trumpet and drums and interested in started a small programming company(what would you call it - game developing company)
Also i am great at all videogames I play but I do have a life unlike some kids
oh and favorite music - house or break trance are my favorite techno But for not electronic I love pop rock(Christian) and Metal(metallica)
I enjoy almost all music though
(lol this is about my 7th edit to this)

If you want any concept art I can help, and if your good at WML I probably want your help...
I program and do some art and recently started WML, my art is nothing compared to this though
also Im good at editing dialouge(i know what is right and can change) but not good at writing from scratch

Re: What do you do in the real world?
I am studying computer science in college. I know that its what I want to do, but I'm not really sure what I want to actually do with it yet.
As for religion, I believe that there was something "unnatural" (however you want to classify it) that started the universe at the very beginning. Whether or not he/she/it/them/etc dabbled in life on Earth since I don't pretend to know. What I do know is that I am going to live my life according to my own morals/ethics instead of looking back to a really old book to tell me how to act.

Just pointing this out: Evolution is the theory of how living creatures came about, and since computers are not alive evolution has nothing to do with them.Dark-X4 wrote: also if you believe people evolve you would also believe computers can evolve as they are much more simple than humans

Right, I don't hate every single jazz piece out there, but I think I know how does jazz sound in general, and I strongly dislike that hearing. To contribute some constructive stuff as well, I'm interested in modern-popular-classical music, which mostly means film and video game scores. My favourite composers are Hans Zimmer and Jesper Kyd.I have to say, "hating jazz" would be like saying you "hate rock," jazz is pretty varied from corny garden variety jazz to crazy experimental stuff. I think creationism is totally ok as one's personal belief, but I really don't understand those who try to sell it away as a scientific theory. I have to think that these people don't understand how science works. It's all about models. You create a model of the world, and make calculations with it to predict the some events in the real world, or just simply understand how things work. A good theory is simply a model which is very effective in this. You might know that two major theories in physics, quantum mechanics and relativity contradict with eachother. Who cares? We can still use them. Now, evolution may be false - even if truth itself is quite a vague term in scientific context - but it still describes the world around us pretty well. Creationism doesn't - it's just about saying "God made it like this, so it's like this".
Computers can't breedif you believe people evolve you would also believe computers can evolve as they are much more simple than humans
Since I've been hijacking this thread in various ways, it's about time I returned to the topic...
I'm a high school student (graduating right now). I had wanted to be a programmer, but then I spent too much time programming and now my biggest nightmare is sitting in front of a computer whole day and programming. I don't know what to do instead.

This might count? Though admittedly it requires intelligent intervention to get it started (though I have heard many people suggest that this could also have played a part in organic evolution)Lipk wrote:Computers can't breed

Re: What do you do in the real world?
Technically, computers have evolved, although in this context the meaning of the word "evolve" is slightly different from the meaning of the word as it is used in Darwin's theory. Mechanical vs organic evolution... I believe those are the terms.

Re: What do you do in the real world?
It appears that most are computer related people (makes sense). I can feel special and unique!
How come we don't have more red names around here with all you science whizzes?

Re: What do you do in the real world?
I guess I'm computer-related, but more hardware than software. I don't know much about programming, and I've grown to suspect that most programmers know very little about hardware. It's kind of scary, this house of cards we've built.

Re: What do you do in the real world?
I'm quite surprised how many people in this thread have been in an IT role, although considering it's a computer game forum I probably shouldn't be. Anyhow, I'm another member of that category; studying IT at college. My only other real-world activity is climbing on stuff, which has caused some entertaining debates with staff, students and (confusingly) random passers by in the street.
I should probably join a club.

Re: What do you do in the real world?
My catchphrase: "Christian conservative, Bible-believing Fundamentalist, saved by the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ. That's me."
Jesus Christ is my Lord and Savior, and I strive to serve Him in all that I do.
Since it's been mentioned: I'm a Young-Earth Creationist.
Occupationally speaking, I'm currently a stagnant student (health issues). Once that clears up, I'm (Lord willing) going to start making custom-made made-in-USA first-aid kits (unfortunately, made in USA first-aid kits are relatively rare; I plan on helping remedy that). Not a full-time kinda job, but a nice little side-project.
That's a very, very basic snapshot of me. A bit more about me is here, should you be interested.
God bless,
Crushmaster.
