Several of our mainline campaigns are in the works for upgrades at the moment, which includes adding characters and enhancing existing scenarios. We are looking for more artwork to supplement these upgrades, including the following:
We are happy to announce that Wesnoth is now able to accept donations on Liberapay. While Wesnoth does rely on the work of dedicated volunteers, no project can function completely cost-free. Revenue from the Apple App Store and from donations goes towards maintaining our servers,...

There are certain technical requirement for mainline portraits. For easy access, I'm going to sticky them here so people can read them and link to them rather than having to type them out every time they're needed.

Two sizes are needed. One goes in the help, one is used...
Welcome to Battle for Wesnoth's Art Forum. This is where a lot of our in-game images get hammered into shape, and is a place designed for the discussion of art designed for use in our game. In this topic, we've listed all the info you'd need to do your own work.
On our wiki, we have tutorials...

I don’t know about mainline since that’s Jetrel’s domain, but user-made content authors are often on the look-out for decent portrait artists. In either case, you would be more likely t...
i post this tutorial mainly to get feedback: is it understandable and comprehensible? is it helpful? is something unclear? do you want to know anything else?

When working on expressive portraits, I often turn to classical art for inspiration — the kind created centuries ago, where clear lines, strong forms, and thoughtful composition give so much depth to a character. I even keep a few custom pieces from WikiArt Store around — it helps to have that kind...
Now, since this is a very simple unit, I've been using it to experiment with standing animations, and I've found out that these, unlike death or attack animations, must consist on a rather significant amount of frames but with very little variations on the sprite from frame...

This thread is for people to post additional animations they have made for existing units.

Quite a while ago I submitted new animations for the elvish fighter, but I haven't seen them in the game yet.
Was wondering if there was still some issue with them
Thanks for the SE running animation, that will certainly get into 1.17. I'm ambivalent about the...
Although almost no core mainline units are in need of new sprites, there's plenty of campaign units which are desperately in need of higher-quality sprites and/or animations. Here's a list of our current needs, separate into two categories; those which need an update to both their base sprites and...

Hi Vyncyn,
Thanks for taking this on, those sprites do need an update.
I think you are being constrained by the existing sprites. Have a little more fun with them. Look at the portrait, add something that says "this guy is royalty", and feel free to move away from the "L-nose and...
This thread does not only contains images and links from and to the British Library Images, but also to The Smithsonian Open Access.
I've already used some images in my campaigns.
After some discussion we have decided to add the following guidelines for any future contributions of story art:
Story art intended to fill the screen should preferably be drawn at a 16:9 widescreen ratio. However, other ratios are acceptable, especially for images not intended to...
Thanks to Chusslove, the engine has now an improved system for handling localization of pictures. Whenever it has to load a picture, it searches if there is a localized version of it, or if there is a localized picture that can be overlaid on it.
In other words, if you are an artist about to...

Hi,
Does somebody know what font was used to obtain data/campaigns/The_Rise_Of_Wesnoth/images/story/trow-logo.png ?
As a general rule, posts in the the Art Contribution section should be meaningful in some way--addressing a question asked by the poster, or giving C&C. Posting simply to say how "awesome something is" is a great sentiment, but when it happens every time, over every image, can get quite "no...

tsr linked me to the following article, which I at least really agree with, and would consider to be helpful reading for anyone perusing this topic. It's somewhat cautionary advice to artists about why they should be willing to recieve criticism - even if the criticism is invalid at times, they'll...

Here I will present and keep track of the process of developing and finishing the sprites for Dunefolk. I will only note what is left to do and actively update it so every one can see how much is left to do.

The Blue TC is darker and less saturated than the red, so adjusting the table is probably the right approach. The blue ellipses...
Hi folks ! Has it been 4 years ? After another extended leave, a new LordBob has been summoned.
Sometime last year, the team contacted me to ask if I would be willing to create commissionned artwork for the Dunefolk faction. We agreed on terms quickly enough, but I needed a while to clear my pile...

Saurian portraits always felt kinda out of the game's style for me so I thought maybe I could try and make something on my own

Okay, castles are proving fun to draw and (for now) I am a bit sick of villages. Since I think I'll be working on at least a desert and a merman castle, and possibly more, I am going to make this workshop topic and include all the castles I develop in here.

Because several campaigns will be added or removed.
I created some WIP sprites for the Hammer of Thursagan masked dwarves.

Secondly I gave them the colors of the current dwarvish colormap.
Thirdly I tried something...

Wesnoth's art has improved dramatically over the last 6-12 months. Unfortunately, the Wesnoth Merchandise store seems to still have the art from a much earlier period.

With all the recent improvements to Wesnoth's art, it feels like a missed opportunity that the merch still uses older assets. Thanks, Heindal! It was my first serious work of digital art (I mostly do pencil) so I've been going back and learning more about digital art in general. Maybe one day I'll do some portraits for non-mainline stuff like add-on campaigns, once I improve.
Wesnoth is what it is because of the efforts of many people. Code contribution has been tracked directly with svn or git, but credit and copyrights for artistic contributions has been a more manual process. In an effort to streamline the attribution and copyrights, we now require the following...

Walking corpses have so many variations, this is probably a big can of worms (hah!) but the help menu would look better if there were at least a default portrait. What would straddle the line between goofy and gruesome? Would this be OK? (I mean as a concept. I know it has errors, like the tiny...

@Straff The sprites aren’t that important either though. A wolf corpse is probably good enough for now. Adding an incomplete product for such a small gap feels like a bad idea that will make the game feel more incomplete, not less. I personally support mainlining it, but I think we should get a...

It's possible to use more than one recolor in an image, in addition to magenta there's the flag_green and ellipse_red source palettes. That could be used to make the orbiting planets the players' chosen team colors.
