Several of our mainline campaigns are in the works for upgrades at the moment, which includes adding characters and enhancing existing scenarios. We are looking for more artwork to supplement these upgrades, including the following:
We are happy to announce that Wesnoth is now able to accept donations on Liberapay. While Wesnoth does rely on the work of dedicated volunteers, no project can function completely cost-free. Revenue from the Apple App Store and from donations goes towards maintaining our servers,...

It looks good at the bottom since the page isnt too long; i had no problem finding it.
There have been numerous important forum posts and wiki articles written by users and developers. We reference these pages a lot, and decided to put them together in a convenient list. ------
Write clearly, be nice to others, and be very careful when posting anything related to politics or religion. When asking for help, remember that everyone here is a volunteer. Prefer editing your previous post over double posting. No animated avatars or graphical signatures. Don’t plagiarize...

Hello, and welcome to the Battle for Wesnoth forums!
If you want to introduce yourself, this is the thread to do it!

Hi! I really like this game! I was looking for an open source alternative for HoMM and while this is not exactly HoMM, I still liked it a lot!
I've made a map and I think that people would like it. Where could I share it for people to check out?
It is nice to be here, thanks for having me.
This is a migration of Wesnoth Tournament Manager site at wesnoth.playranked.org that is now disabled
Major changes
No need to...

Hi alexandermoreau.
The ranked site is not enforcing in specific that pool. The system is configurabel to accept as ranked other maps, I think is up to the community to make propossals and we can incorporate more maps. Currently the maps, as Hejnewar has pointed to me in the discord channel are...
Videos created by content authors or maintainers to promote their content that are provided to the Wesnoth team for upload to Wesnoth's Youtube channel must follow the rules listed below:
Quality: Originally encoded at a minimum of 720p, but ideally 1080p or higher.
Decided to throw a list of my 5 most favorite UMC campaigns and thought that maybe others might wanna do the same in this thread.
Ok here's my list (not necessarily in any order of preference)
To Lands Unknown
Ashen Hearts
Genesis
Return from the Abyss
Danse Macabre
There were some...

I think mine are:
The White Troll (Don't remember how well balanced it was, but I think it wasn't terrible, and it was a fun little adventure - should see if I can find it again, if it exists for the more recent versions of Wesnoth)
Birds of a Feather (Played this one recently; fun game play, and...
Hello!
A few days back I got the idea to make a Minecraft mod that would bring the music from the BfW OST to Minecraft. From what I understand, I can legally do this publicly if the mod is free and under the same license as BfW. I think I am even able to get revenue from it on Modrinth? Though I do...
Welcome, Creators,
to a once-in-an-era opportunity! In a few months, the most talented strategists will compete in a tournament for the title of All-Strategy Master! However, the worlds that will serve as challenges to prove their claim to this most prestigious title are yet to be chosen. So, if...
Someone knows about projects to turn Wesnoth into a 3D game?
I don't and that's why I think it could be a great idea to take the game core and mechanics exactly as they are, expose the core through an API and send the data to a 3D client made with GODOT.
Some tiny quibbles: Would have been cool if the reflections vanish at night. Star and moonlight reflections? Well maybe. Wesnoth doesn't account for the phases of the moon. Well there's an idea for another addon : ) The other...

Slight bug with reflections causing it to appear as sharp boundaries on beach edges? I can find a visual if need be
After a long hiatus I'm playing some games again (1.16), and somehow the new "combat hit" random generator seems strange to me. Illogical. Level 1 enemies routinely bash my level 2 units, which only rarely seem to get a hit in. I don't remember this from the previous version I used (1.12). Note I'm...

- deterministic speaking, and assuming the peasant will attack with their ranged weapon (which the royal guard cannot retaliate)
-the peasants may win with one survivor (half HP) on 40% def hex
- on 50% def hex the royal guard would win.
Hi. Is there any thread where can players post their most epic game they have ever played (I mean mainly Afterlife/Isar..if their win/loss or just running of the game was somehow interesting/odd/record ? ).
I've made a couple campaigns (initially for 1.12, now ported to 1.16) and am considering switching to 1.18. But I'm not sure I understand the new add-on structure and its "ID".
Given all my campaigns happen in a specific non-Wesnoth universe with dozens of custom units, I definitely see the...
Hello! I have almost finished the first campaign that I made, and I wanna upload it in the add-ons store. Do any of you know how I can do that? xd
And also, after I figure that out, if there's any of you people who is skilled in campaign-making, would you like to play it and then tell me what you...
Sorry guys but I'm probably missing the obvious.
During the AI turn, the computer scrolls the map at a snail speed (about 1/3 of the speed scrolling is actually set to). How comes?
I can alleviate things by pressing "Shift" each time the AI tries to scroll the map, but it's tedious. Is there an...
I now like add-ons Strange Legacy and SXRPG, partly because they don't force me to control more than one unit. When I started playing Wesnoth over ten years ago, I found it okay to control many units simultaneously. Without that taste I would probably have quitted Wesnoth after the tutorial and...

Thanks spirit for your nice words and mentioning Strange Legacy and also your continuous support with bug reports for all my projects. Players have different preferences. Unfortunately in its core Battle for Wesnoth is a Strategy War Game for many units. So many players might not be interested....
hi, im new! im trying to just play a game with my buddy of the same wifi network - but I cannot for the life of me find either wesnothd or wesnoth-server package
I find the server.conf in the game data - but I can't find what I need in order to let me play "network multiplayer" can anyone help?...

after a longer absence (several years) I decided to play BfW again and went straight for the 1.19.23 beta to get the bleeding edge for new content. The new mainline candidates are really enjoyable; but what blew me away was the HttT reinvention; the non-linear playing style, the slight open...
Elves have a 70% evasion chance on forest.
Dragons have 40% evasion chance on nearly any ground.
Have the developers considering decreasing evlen evasion chance to 60% and give dragons some grounds where they have 50-60% evasion chance? It does feel unbalanced imo.

Are there any plans to fully include the dune folk as a playable base race within a future update of the game?
Is anyone actively working on the dune folk race, for example creating animations for each units attack and defense?

FrostBlade5 wrote: June 8th, 2026, 11:42 am
Does that also mean animations and sound effects have been added to dunefolk in the current developement version?
Feel free to try the 1.19 version if you can't wait for 1.20, it's not unplayable.
Dunefolk had sound effects even in 1.18 (in "Default...
It might (hopefully does not) appear like a silly question, but im curious after 1.19 the next stable release will be 1.20?
Going from stable 1.18 to stable 1.20 what will be the major changes? Is there a roadmap for people to view?
I respect the people behind wesnoth because you refuse to collect userdata for your own profit, a common evil practice these days.
Discord has proofen how evil they are with their "age-verification" which is simply mass-identity-collection.
Have you considered moving from discord to a new form of...

Wesnoth is far older than Discord and never depended on it.
"Of course Discord is the nr1 option" - that's just an opinion.
Speaking of alternatives, IRC is already there and is technologically proven for decades. It's far more suitable than some new, random chat platforms, that may just as well...
Is there a tutorial-style Campaign to teach newish players more advanced gameplay?
After doing battle training and a 1-2 campaigns, I think this would be useful. Battle Training doesn't go over things like resistance (to weapon types), more advanced abilities (like cure and drain), multiplayer, or...

> This is an old game, and old games with a lot of data often expect their users to spend time browsing the wiki for answers.
If I remember correctly, back when I started to play wesnoth, there was no wiki (yet), but I am not 100% sure. I first played the main campaigns for some time, until I re...
Heyo!
I really want to get back to the game, but evertime i try to launch it, the game does simply not open.
It is active in the task manager, but no screen pops up.
Did anyone have the same problems? If so, how did you fix it? TIA
While I am not sure if this qualifies as an issue, I find it odd (and mildly irksome, to be frank) that Fire Guardians (which are stated to frolic in lava) and Fire Wraiths, both of whom are seemingly comprised of flame and possess only a partial resistance to fire, where as other creatures like...

Usually 100% resistance is something to be avoided when designing a unit because it can lead to pathological situations. For example, if the Fire Guardian had 100% fire resistance, then if you had a battle with Fire Guardians on both sides, they would be (almost) unable to do any...
