Re: Scenario 3: Road to Weldyn

1) What difficulty levels have you played the scenario on? Wesnoth 1.14.11, hardest: 'Great Mage' (difficult), no reloading during campaign; played the scenario many times (2) How difficult did you find the scenario? (1-10) 4 (in comparison with the rest of the campaign) (3) How clear did you find ...

Re: How do you get better in Campaigns?

What is IMO essential for most harder campaign scenarios: "Good safe" basic tactical ability. Not which unit to recruit and not how much gold to spend and other such (strategic) choices but where/when to place (and attack with) individual units without looking too many turns ahead. So how ...

Re: How to enjoy hard campaigns when they go wrong

Based on your OP I think you need more playing skill. If you lose a unit to "bad RNG" its usually due to a combination of bad play and bad RNG. If you dont face this (the bad play part) truthfully and dont enjoy improving your playing skill you probably will just get frustrated or somethin...

Re: DEVELOPMENT: player feedback on development

Without having full insight I also strongly dislike the idea of removing 50% of mainline campaigns. If the development team thinks there are quality issues it would be better to add a description per campaign detailing its 'quality status'. So for example if I am uninterested in the lore anyway I wo...

Re: When are Javelineers useful?

playing Wesnoth campaigns units like Pikeman are sort of gimped due to their lack of ranged attack and are only viable because they have particular strengths. But the whole Spearman line is like that (and the 1x7 ranged pierce is close to having no ranged attack). No, the 1x6 is not "close to ...

Re: When are Javelineers useful?

Javelineer, Elvish Ranger, Ranger, Dune Rover and Dune Raider share the same unit design : same retaliation power against ranged and melee attacks. I haven't played Dunefolk, but: The Elvish Ranger is more beefy than its "single-attack-type-focused" alternative advancement, the Elvish Mar...

Re: When are Javelineers useful?

Stat wise Javelineer is IMO much better than Pikeman. How so? A Pikeman has: * 55 HP to the Javelineer's 48 * 10x3 Melee to the Javelineer''s 8x3 * First Strike The only "drawback" is no ranged attack, but - really, you don't keep these units around for ranged combat. You level Spearmen t...

Re: When are Javelineers useful?

I'm wondering where people have found Javelineers useful in Campaign play. Stat wise Javelineer is IMO much better than Pikeman. Main drawback is that they cannot level up more. So consequently in situations in which this is irrelevant or not very important they are a viable choice. And these situa...

havent seen any surveys or data that says 'most ppl' dont like intel trait gotta do the math, but from an overall cost-benefit standpoint intel trait is the single best quality BY FAR in any unit in single player campaigns , with very few exceptions You may be forgetting that units cost upkeep? Re: Age of Heroes balance.

Goblin gold costs affecting campaigns... i'm not so sure about this. Dealing with one or two more squishy goblins can really be such an issue? Goblins are sometimes (or often) the most dangerous recruit for AI. They counter horses. And the squishiness works in the AIs favor: It allows them to get k...

Re: Novice+intermediate campaigns on permadeath

Yes, I've tried planning mode, but I find it relatively messy to use. However, discovering a hidden unit or uncovering part of the map in a scenario with fog of war makes it impossible to press undo right? I think so - not 100% sure though as I dont use 'undo' myself (unless I inadvertently trigger...

Re: Novice+intermediate campaigns on permadeath

- I did allow myself to press "u" for undo whenever available (i.e. after moving a unit but not attacking). Often this is useful for finding the optimal positioning of troops. In current versions of Wesnoth there is a 'planning mode' which is probably much better than using 'undo' functio...

Re: Scenario 10: Gryphon Mountain

Various posts in here seem to be hinting that there is more to it than what the scenario objectives (in 1.14.9) say. My feedback on that (if true) is that I do not (at all) like that. BfW is a strategy game and not an RPG or point-and-click adventure. If the scenario objective is misleading then it ...

Re: Strong mages/shamans/etc.

In my opinion resilient is the worst trait. 3 hitpoints more than strong is kind of a joke in my view, except maybe to mitigate the penalty on quick units. Resilient is 4+level-1, so a level 3 unit has 5 points more than strong, not 3. A level 4 (great mage etc.) has 6. It makes a difference pretty...
