Re: [1.12] Bug (not starting after modifying add-ons folder)
Please delete the folder C:/Program Files/Battle for Wesnoth 1.12.0\userdata\cache (It will be recreated). Deleting the cache from time to time is a good idea in general.
You can try with a basic addon (_main.cfg) that should work, such as ASC.
This could be a problem as well.pe_em wrote:wrote nothing inside.

Re: Change title screen music
what really needs to go us vengeful.ogg, talk about jarring. How can anyone focus on gameplay with trumpets blasting like sirens? Very true. vengeful.ogg is dynamically compressed and/or clipped, that is why its average loudness can be that high. Should be thrown out of our repository (solely becau...

Re: [1.12] Bug (not starting after modifying add-ons folder)
Please paste content of stderr.txt (from your wesnoth installation folder) after trying to start wesnoth after modifying an addon as you say. Probably something in the addon lets wesnoth choke right at the start. The "old" addon you modify could be A Simple Campaign , which is designed for...

Re: Campaigns without turn limit
I'm curious, how exactly would you prevent experience and gold milking through scenario design? Good question. I tried to event a few such scenarios for my own campaign, which follows "standard wesnoth gameplay" most of the time. (Sure there is a huge difference here, you need a scenario ...

Re: [modify_unit] disappearances/bug
Huh, so that's what "Can add traits with immediate effect" means No. Back when [modify_unit] didn't exist yet, things, traits especially, often came into effect only once the unit leveled into itself for instance, and people were frequently asking about this in the wml workshop. The wesno...

Re: [1.12] Compiling on VS 2013
You can try the newest MSVC package from http://sourceforge.net/projects/wesnoth/files/unofficial/Windows%20Compile%20Stuff/ because the one you linked probably no longer works. You could set your checkout a little back in time, to just the beginning of December: git checkout 23ca125d4eb28192dab7951...

Re: Why is noone on 1.12?
It was our practice in 1.11.13, and 1.11.15 release notes to announce all compatibility breaking changes that are new in the release, in a colored section. It seemed to be consensus on irc that a compatibility-breaking change to WML api is always RELEASE_NOTES-worthy. So all wml/lua API compatibili...

Re: Why is noone on 1.12?
Please report bugs, don't assume that they have been reported or that others will do it... That's the developer speaking, not the player. The sad truth is that vast majority of "testers" will not even bother with a new version until the new stable series is out. Especially multiplayer peo...

Re: Why is noone on 1.12?
1.12 is just out. Way too early for switching multiplayer. Let others do the bug report work. For instance, 1.12.1 will apparently feature the "classic" UI theme, which means the battle screen it will almost look the same as in 1.10 (positioning of unit info and such) - if activated - it w...

Re: Error when uploading an add-on
Use a variation of http://forums.wesnoth.org/viewtopic.php?f=21&t=14859 to find out the problematic file. Basically, (temporarily) delete half of your addon's files and try. If success, repeat with the deleted part. Otherwise, repeat with the remaining part. Guaranteed to find you whatever/where...

Re: Problems to install BfW 1.11.19 and 1.12.0 under Windows
This is a very wild guess...I had something like that when not auto-mounting the (NTFS) partition I have my wesnoth source on. I added it to some file (probably in /etc/, I'm sure someone knows) so that the system mounts that partition automatically when booting, that fixed it. What is your /mnt/dat...

Re: Problems to install BfW 1.11.19 and 1.12.0 under Windows
Can you run BfW from console while passing --log-debug=all and paste stderr.txt again ? To do so on win xp one can go to Start>Run, type cmd.exe, click OK, navigate to where wesnoth.exe is using cd X:\path\to\wesnoth.exe\ (cd=change directory) command and type wesnoth.exe --log-debug=all, press ente...

Re: When to use Planning Mode
Am I correct that the planning mode is also called a whiteboard? That's it's name in the source, while planning mode is just the user visible description, yes. I also use it sometimes to plan long-term movement of some units (2-3 turns), to see whether I should be able to reach some spot in time an...

Re: load save games from old versions properly
Always use start-of-scenario saves for transferring campaign playthroughs between different BfW versions, because they only contain the campaign data, but not data from the scenario (just the info what scenario shall be loaded). There probably will still be warnings spamming the chat area. You can u...
