Re: A grand design for singleplayer mainline lore
Thoughts: Kinda on the fence with respect to removing A Tale of Two Brothers. I feel like there might be reasons to keep it still? Placing Garard in TSG seems to create a problem - if the prince is there, why is Deoran in command? It might be an easily-solved problem, mind you, but... I never playe...

Re: A grand design for singleplayer mainline lore
Focusing on the HttT arc for now, I do intend to balance the 5 campaigns in question keeping in mind the order of play. For me, it's not about keeping the difficulty levels consistent (i.e. "Challenging" difficulty being consistent between campaigns). Rather, the player should have a nice ...

Re: A grand design for singleplayer mainline lore
Some players want small battles, some want large battles, but more likely players are sometimes in the mood for small and sometimes in the mood for Northern Rebirth . Putting in a big battle to change up the pacing sounds like a device from books or TV series, solving a problem which can be handled...

Re: A grand design for singleplayer mainline lore
Based on the feedback and thinking about it a bit more, I think it would be reasonable to work with something functionally close to the original plan I proposed in my first post, but with different plot elements. Basically, group the campaigns into 3 story arcs each with a separate plotline, but con...

Reworking/Revising The Sceptre of Fire
So after some discussion with @celticminstrel and @doofus-01 today on discord, we're thinking of looking at revising The Sceptre of Fire. I'm opening a new thread here so we have a clean place to more permanently track comments/ideas for this revision. First, I'll say that the actual plotline of SoF...

Re: A grand design for singleplayer mainline lore
I should've posted this earlier, but didn't get to doing it. We've been tossing around an idea on discord for splitting after the fall stuff to 2.0 (Haldric), in essence making it thematically different than 1.x. Considering this, my initial proposal definitely won't work, so I'll need to rethink it...

Re: A grand design for singleplayer mainline lore
Passing along a message from Whiskeyjack since I can't post in the developers discussion section, I'd like to add my two cents here - if you deem them worthy of consideration, I'd be happy if you posted them there for me... I have some very strong reservations about your proposal, despite the follow...

Re: A grand design for singleplayer mainline lore
Something like that initially occurred to me, but there is a bit of a problem with it in that with a more abstract concept as a storyline (i.e. climate change induced by magic in this case) it requires a lot more rewriting and skill to accomplish properly instead of more concrete enemies (i.e. demon...

Re: A grand design for singleplayer mainline lore
We could simply rename the demons if that would be an issue (which I don't think it is, there are plenty of other non controversial games that use demon-like factions, e.g. Warcraft, Elder Scrolls, Doom, Diablo, etc.). Yes, it would involve incrementally removing mainline campaigns for the reasons I...

A grand design for singleplayer mainline lore
Okay so the title is kind of facetious, but a little bit serious too.  There are spoilers to follow. If you have not played much mainline singleplayer yet, or would like to find out about this new lore later on, please disregard this post. Basically, along the lines of the previous discu...

Re: Removing mainline campaign(s)
1. We obviously do not have a recurring main cast. Each campaign has different main characters. There are some recurring characters, but no two campaigns have the same main characters (maaaaaybe Kalenz/Delfador is arguable, nevertheless, there are still 15 campaigns besides that). From the point of...

Re: Removing mainline campaign(s)
I think you're focussing too much on players who want an interactive story, and forgetting that there are also players who just want a basic campaign, even some who want to be able to ignore the story. These are not mutually exclusive - someone who's following a complex story somewhere else may wan...

Re: Removing mainline campaign(s)
I've already said that I don't think AOI consisting of 7 basic "defeat the enemy leader" scenarios is defensible from my point of view. That alone would merit it being removed from mainline because I don't think this is a standard we should support. I'll repeat again that we have 2 other r...

Re: Removing mainline campaign(s)
Hi nemaara, I agree in general that the state of mainline campaigns has sometimes been sub-par. I haven't played AOI, but if we're reviewing it now, I could try to get with the program. Most of your points sound reasonable, but there is still something to be said for a simple, low maintenance, begi...
