Re: Which type of bowman is preferable for which situations?

I really fail to see why you would ever have to choose between the three, but I'll humor you: I think you should almost always use the elvish archer, who has a better damage output, more moves and a vastly preferable movetype. Also his level ups are much more interesting. Although there could be an ...

Re: Rogue Cost

Yeah, Lv2 units are allegedly not very balanced, but honnestly it's a rather moot point, especially if you main criterion is its cost, since you normally never have to pay it. Also agreed with jakhtur about the gobo. And don,t compare it to peasant and such: since these are not in the mainline facti...

Re: recall army ? (not working)

It's not just about having your leader in the "castle", there usually is a castle tile that's a bit higher, with a throne or spires or stuff differentiating it from other castle tiles. That's the "Keep", your leader must be on it for any recruiting or recalling to happen. Edit: A...

Re: [mainline] Outlaws 3lvl update

Well let's not go crazy with the unit's name either. I mean that even he's called an "assassin" does not necessarily mean it's an untouchable killing machine. And a "commando" would fit poorly in a thief-rogue unit line, thematically. I'm not against giving that unit form of stea...

Re: [mainline] Outlaws 3lvl update

Or other variants I also already saw include staying hidden as long as the unit has at least 3-5 mps left. So he could sneak by moving slowly, modifying his position slightly in case of need while remaining hidden. If it seems overpowered, maybe make it a night-time exclusive (makes more sense than ...

Re: [mainline] Outlaws 3lvl update

Not a big fan of ambush for assassins either. Since when are assassins familiar with the woods, anyway? I'm not saying no human should ever have it; the odd human hero could indeed parallel the elves' mastery of the woods, but all assassins? Not really... Concealment could be an option, though. Or m...

Re: Lich Overpoweered ?

Well it HAS been some time I have checked the maps that are in mainline, my bad for saying survivals weren't in it. Let me rephrase my previous comment: I was rather talking about standard multiplayer, were default unit balancing really is the thing. Costum scenarios like survival can easily customi...

Re: Lich Overpoweered ?

No if you play mp survivals. Liches are pretty common there. Well my comment would of course exclude anything that is not a mainline game on a mainline map. Wether anything is balanced or not in a user made scenario is up to the scenario's creator rather than the main game's devs. For example: &quo...

Re: Lich Overpoweered ?

Also, encountering a lich in mp? That must be a uber-rare occurance! If you manage to let your opponent level his leader into a lich, you were probably pretty much screwed already anyway...

[...] obviously if you sink a lot of money into guardsmen then a sizable portion of your army will be very slow and deal little damage. My thoughts exactly. Also, gryphon riders are indeed fast, but they're also pretty expensive... As for your second question, it depends on a lot of factors, but I'...

Re: The "wall" defense

Note that I'm really not a pro and also I haven't seen the map or the players in action. Against such a strategy, and depending on the faction I was playing, I think I'd try to get a few fast units, out-maneuver the slow dwarves and cut their income. The more units you have on the field, the more co...

"...best employed in static defense of fortified positions..." It didn,t say "Nobody is better at dodging blows in these positions", it said "they are at their best in these positions". It doesn't necessarily mention defense (although it is of course a factor), and it d...

Re: My thoughts on the games balance

About the luck thing: Wesnoth if also a game of managing risk. Maybe you expose yourself too much? In any event, everyone here will guarantee you chances are not skewed, one way or another. But I feel ya, it was really hard on me at first, too. Try not to save/load too much, I find it kills the enjo...

Re: New faction... sounds familiar?

Hide ability is very interesting and could be a good way to balance stealth. I think, however, that with such a strong limitation it should not be terrain restricted. Also, maybe instead of requiring that the unit has full movepoints to remain hidden, it could ask for the unit to have at least 5 or ...
