Re: Troll Hero

And now for something not-so-completely different, this troll chatter made my pencil itch. Whichever it'd be best suited for (Troll warrior I'd say), here's a sketch inspired by all of them sprites. Note that as far as jewelry goes, I picked crystals and other rarities of the underground instead of ...

Re: Loyalist Portrait Series

Been working a little on the pikeman & halberdier tonight. The pikeman will be 500*500 in the end. He now has a longer pike, with a spontoon-like blade which I hope is more impressive. Additional studds on the chest leather ought to improve the armour, and, last but definitely not least, he fina...

Re: thespaceinvader's portraits - current, Dwarves

Quick comment of the Lord now we actually see the linework. He's starting way better than the fighter did, but again I'd make him bulkier, mostly by widening his whole chest & shoulders. I'd refer to your thunderer & DGuard, whose bodies are a lot easier to read as "dwarfish". Helm...

Re: Mermaid initiate portrait

Regarding musculature, I wouldn't give much credit to the swimming effort with such a massive tail. Make her lean, yes, but keep in mind that the reader will think warrior/mage before wondering how long she swims in a day  Regarding mammals vs other creatures of the sea, I like the idea of mam...

Re: thespaceinvader's portraits - current, Dwarves

One last comment about the fighter : the position of his right shoulder feels akward. This might be only me, but had you not drawn the hand, what we see of the shoulder would make him a convincing one-armed. :hmm: I think I understand which position you're aiming at, but drawing an arm backwards as ...

Re: thespaceinvader's portraits - current, Dwarves

I really like your latest Thunderer. Let the argument about its realism roll on, I personnaly find it the most visually convincing chainmail you've done, both in scale and lighting. :D About the warrior, I'd say don't hesitate to start over : you'll feel free to follow you gut without the constraint...

Re: Mermaid initiate portrait

Regardless of the whole breast/nipples/bellybutton discussion, her face disturb me. When I look at your picture, I see two different parts : - The whole body, which is viewed from a low angle - The face, which is viewed with a face-to-face angle. While I like the view of the body, I think the whole ...

Re: Loyalist Portrait Series

As far as helmets go, it seems to me that the pikeman sprite has the same kind of helmet as the swordsman, plus the royal guard's and halberdier's aren't so different. While I do like what Lord.Beham proposes, I can't end up giving one of these to every loyalist I draw. One of the three lower...

Re: Loyalist Portrait Series

As far as I understand, the height of the portrait is a problem. Pictures can have 400 pixels as maximum height, which the pikeman already has. Lengthening the pike is an easy job, but I'm reluctant when it comes to having one portrait in a scale different to others. Should I give the handle real pi...

Re: Loyalist Portrait Series

Hell, it's been a busy week. Still, I managed to get an inked version of the Pikeman done. I consider adding a leather cowl of sorts beneath his helmet, but not much helse is planned yet. In the meantime I'll be working on the Halberdier. Also, SkeletonCrew noticed a few stray pixels on the general ...

Re: Some sketches

The colour scheme has improved (though it still carries eye-burning levels of saturation :lol2: ), I rather like how it all works together. Unfortunately, I still find his left forearm a lot longer than his right. Check your image, I think there's roughly the length of a fist between the two. This c...

Re: thespaceinvader's portraits - current, Dwarves

(Not-so-)Quick review of your three dwarf portraits. Thunderer: I like the new chainmail pattern, but I've seen you obtain better results with steel. Right now, it seems a little flat because you use only one grey tone for the most intense light. My suggestion : once again, intensify highlights thro...

Re: Loyalist Portrait Series

Blarrh, I just can't obtain a General variation I'd be pleased with. Changing an existing model's arms and head without touching the rest only ever results in a false-looking posture, should've known about it. :annoyed: If Kitty's ok with it, commit the above marshal variation as a spare I might com...

Re: Since I don't have an active topic ATM... Portraits!

In addition to what has already been said: - his hands are better, but the angle of his left thumb is akward. In a natural grip, you'll find out that bending your thumb this much is difficult. I'd recommand changing the thumb so that it seems more in line with the arm. - eyes: I'm ok with their shap...

Re: Loyalist Portrait Series

Finished an additional marshal portrait. This one is intended as a spare for campaign dialog, and ready be committed anytime as far as I'm concerned. Furthermore, I'm posting a WIP of a third modified picture: as far as marshals go, I fear I must declare it a failure. Right now he really seems to be...
