The starting castles are humungous! I'm not sure anyone would ever use that much room without a giant amount of starting gold.

No, that's not true, it rounds it up to 1 as Syntax_Error said. the cut-off is 6.

It's kind of odd that in his leading/disco animation his right wing shifts a little, but his left doesn't.
