Re: Achievements

Could the achievements be campaign-specific? I think if you specify the same condition for all campaigns, for example "recruit only one unit type", in some campaigns it can be much harder than in other campaigns. In some campaigns it could be even absolutely impossible, either because of some victor...

P2P random numbers

I do not know if this would be useful for Wesnoth, but there is an algorithm for generating random numbers between two players, which: a) prevents cheating; b) does not require help of third party. If the two players could communicate simultaneously -- that is "A speaks to B at the same time as B sp...

Re: Web client for Wesnoth, like Freeciv.

It means writing the game again, in a different programming language, doesn't it?

The only good thing about it, is that you would have clear specification of what needs to be done. And your data files are already made. Still a lot of work, though.

Re: Translation

I tried to make my suggestion language-neutral. It is just "if you all agree to speak in language X, why not all play the scenario in language X, so you won't have problems with different translations?". It works equally for any X. If you switch the language, you have to reload all data, and it take...

Re: Translation

Technically, when the unit type information is read from WML file, the English names do not exist. Only localized names and IDs exist. (I guess the ID is usually the same as English name, but it is supposed to be an internal identifier that is never shown to user.) Somehow I do not like the idea of ...

Re: Distributing games made with BFW engine commercially?

I think there are two questions to consider here: 1. If you decide to make some parts of the new game proprietary -- to prevent your first customer giving it legally free to everyone else -- which parts should it be? Text? Music? Pictures? Something else? 2. Based on the previous answer: For your se...

Re: Wesnoth Chess?

But if you want me to make said map, I will need the code on how to do "on death: be able to be recalled by opponent of ally." or similar. http://wiki.wesnoth.org/EventWML Seems to me that in event "die" you have to take the "unit" variable, modify its "side" property according to "second_unit", pr...

Re: More exposure for portraits (NOT on the sidebar)

I think it would be nice if a click on the unit info in sidebar would open a window with unit information. The help already contains "unit type information", but this would be " unit information" -- similar, but different. For example it would not only display maximum hit points, but also current hi...

Re: Screenshot feature

But the .bmp file can be opened in MSPaint and saved again as a .jpg, no? Try this: http://www.imagemagick.org/ It is a command-line tool that I use exactly for situations like this: convert screenshot.bmp -quality 60 screenshot.jpeg or other simple operations like convert screenshot.bmp -resize 50...

Re: Is it competitor or not?

The "V" letter in general on the screenshots, the word "Istselenie" on the second screenshot is difficult to read due to its color and its crumbly look. Yes, it hurts my eyes. The units on the first screenshot are too large (even on low-res you should be able to get a view that's a BIT smaller) Is ...

Re: Castle Separations

A backward-compatible solution would be to add a new attribute to keep and castle tiles. For example by default all keeps and castles would have attribute "A", but it would be somehow possible in map editor to change this attribute to "B" or "C". The algorithm would be similar to now: all adjacent c...

Wesnoth on ReactOS

This is not a bug report... or more precisely, it is not a Wesnoth bug report, but rather a ReactOS bug report. I just wanted to share the results of my experiment. For those who haven't heard about it, ReactOS is a free Windows-like operating system. (Similarly like Linux is a free Unix-like operat...

Re: Wesnoth 1.7.0

The add-ons directory, <preferences>/data/campaigns, has been renamed to <preferences>/data/add-ons in order to better reflect its current purpose: holding not only singleplayer campaigns, but also any other kinds of single or multiplayer add-ons. Good idea, but maybe just "<userdata>/addons" would...

Another example that you cannot make everyone happy. And also another example that with free software you can at least make more people happy. Bwv549, I disagree with your suggestions to change Wesnoth images, but I also admire the way you solved the problem. The official game will not change...

Re: Improve In-Game statistics (Gold value)

In addition to numbers, it would be nice to display a graph of numbers in each turn. (If I remember correctly, Warlords had something like this, and it was cool.) I imagine the dialog having a list of possible values on the left, such as "Units", "Cost of Units", "Units Killed" (means: how many unit...
