gettext ?

What about using GNU gettext tools for dialogs i18n ? I don't know if it's overweighted nor how to add it to current C++ code. But we use it for ELinks project i18n since some time, and it works cleanly, supporting formats (ie ."%02d %s"), and is quite used over open projects. Or it's perhaps faster...

Yes, renaming already named units is useless, i think renaming option should only concerned recalled units, since newly recruited units have to make their names on the battlefield.... :)

More than one ability :)

I think having more than one ability per unit is a good idea, especially if in future we have books as objects, so units can learn a new ability ...
temporary abilities can be result of spells, ....

It's reproducible on another system

First save is fast, but more you advance in campaign, slower is the saving,
after some time it becames > 1mn.

Units that may attack and move

Good idea, as an ability to certain units. About move + attack + move, i think it can be acceptable if attack costs movements points: say 7 mvts points move 4 + attack 2 + move 1 attack cost is 2 here, but we can set movement points to 1 after attack too... Great ability for some special units like ...

A smell of Dynasty Tactics ;) If we have more abilities which cause ever allies or enemies to move to another tile, some interesting combinaisons may be possible. But we need a thing like "wait and do some action when an ennemy come in an adjacent tile", let the player choose what unit should do in ...

Better keyshortcuts support

It would be great to be able to recruit through key R + a number (0 - 9) for most common units. Number should appear besides label in units menu.

And shift + R to repeat last recruit action.

About home directories and OS...

Just check for $HOME env var, if empty save to some_path\wesnoth\savedgames where some_path is ie. C:\ or /tmp or whatever you want (and take care of slashes).

If $HOME is set, then save to
$HOME/.wesnoth/savedgames

A special env variable can be used and checked to like: WESNOTH_HOME

Make a preference option to show enemies's gold or not ....

And enforce it in multiplayer mode, so if a player has "i don't want to see enemy's gold.' option, all others players have it. Or something of that taste.
