Re: BfW is a game that relies on save-scumming too much

I don't get what's the point. Some people don't like randomness. (At least whenever it turns against them.) That's fair. But I don't see reducing randomness in this way as a possible solution. The reason those people get annoyed sometimes is obviously, that they neglect the chance of events to happe...

Re: BfW is a game that relies on save-scumming too much

I don't find anything wrong in RNGs, but it would really help if the rolls would be more consistent. Too often I saw streaks of unreallistics hits or misses. Well, the rolls are consistently random. And there are a lot of it. During the course of an average scenario there're probably around 100 bat...

Re: Shouldn't a STONE CASTLE provide more defense than a wooden palisade?

AS the thread name implies. I find it odd they have the exact same defense values What about villages? Shouldn't "dwarven-style" stone villages get better protection than ordinary wooden villages? And shouldn't villages with straw roofs be especially vulnerable to fire attacks? Of course, they coul...

Re: 1.14 on Debian

Any idea when the Debian folks will offer 1.14? I've only installed Deb a few weeks back so I'm not willing to try out the backport that is available. It's been a decade and a half since I used Linux so I'm keeping it simple which means only the gui software installers available... If you really do...

Re: Moremiru's only trait is Loyal. Is this intentional?

-Moremiru's only trait is Loyal. Is this intentional? It certainly is. The trait system's main purpose is not to make units better, but to bring a little bit of variety into otherwise identical units. Whenever you create special units as a campaign author, you have the choice, if you want to assign...

Re: Favourite and Least Favourite Unit?

The probability of only one hit in three against 30% terrain defense is more than 20%, so it will happen every five turns on average. That's high enough that you should have a backup plan in case it happens. Yes, and my backup plan is… leveling up horsemen into knights instead of lancers. ;) I also...

Re: Favourite and Least Favourite Unit?

And now my least favorite units: I HATE lancers! They are the suicide bombers of the Wesnoth universe. Sure, they deal incredible amounts of damage, when deployed against archers, magicians or other range attack units, but because of their assault attack, charging any melee unit is a pretty bad idea...

Re: Favourite and Least Favourite Unit?

One of my favourite units are the spectre resp. wraith. Healing yourself while beating the opposition to pulp is the best power you can have. Especially on favorite ground with low defense rates for your opponents, they are more or less self-sustainable and can be sent out as an autonomous killing m...

Re: [Need Help] a Campaign that related to Mainline except UtBS

Liked 'Cities of the Frontier' as well. The concept is pretty different, comparing to the evolving stories of usual campaigns, though. So your mileage will vary.

Re: A Little Adventure (SP campaign for 1.14)

Uhm! I am rather reluctant to change the level of the campaign, because I still think the campaign is suitable for novices because the maps are small or medium-sized, the same for the armies, and there isn't strange units or strange puzzle to solve, Well, it's obviously your decision, and it's kind...

Re: A Little Adventure (SP campaign for 1.14)

I started this on 'difficult', because it's designated as a 'novice level' campaign in the selector, and now I find it really really hard! After a few attempts I managed to beat the outlaws in the first scenario by rushing across the river during daylight with my two spearmen and the first keep of p...

You have to use a worker unit and build a new one at the same place.

Re: Undead Names

I always found it a little strange that common undead would have names. Naming a skeleton wight is a bit confusing just as it would be naming a wight called skeleton. I don't think Eagle_11 named a single skeleton 'wight'. As I understand it, he created a new character class of lvl4 skeletons, that...

Re: Undead Names

I was wondering why not change some undead's generic names to more fantasy related ones. Like instead of Necrophage or Shadow, why not using Wight ? Well, afair wights in fantasy literature like LotR are ghostly creatures, so it wouldn't fit at all to use this name for an advanced ghoul. But the ex...
