Re: New Player - Feedback & Small Questions

It's okay. It's not like I want things to be overpowered and easy. But it is a bit frustrating to have to send elvish shamans into the fray, they are so weak it's really hard to get kills with them! It's a little bit tricky, but not really hard. Just takes a little bit of practice. If you stay in t...

Re: What mainline campaigns are high quality?

Tough question, because it's kinda difficult to define what 'quality' is. IMO none of the mainline campaigns is really bad and lacks quality at all. They're often just serving different purposes. Before getting into detail, I wanna point out that I personally favor short to medium-sized campaigns mu...

I don't remember what was the worst ever, probably haven't even noticed back then. But recently I've got -6/+20.

Re: Strong mages/shamans/etc.

I see your point re shamans; mages are more expensive, however, and don't have 70% defense anywhere. Mage on a village is about as good as you're going to get in that respect. Yes, I was referring to shamans only. Regarding mages, you're probably right. With their 5x1 staff they only get half as mu...

Re: Strong mages/shamans/etc.

If my mages/shamans are attacking or being attacked in melee, I'm doing something wrong - the trait is almost entirely useless for them, I tend to think that strong isn't that bad on shamans. I'd rather say, if your shamans aren't ever attacked in melee, you probably don't use them to their full ex...

Re: Simple Question.... Carry Over Gold...

Of course, it does say in the ending dialogue... " the minimum starting gold" but that's vague in my opinion. So I'm assuming the minimum is always possible? Yes, the minimum is what you always get, in any case, even if you finished the previous scenario with minus 1000. This number depends though....

Re: Simple Question.... Carry Over Gold...

In some scenarios, I may be able to save 800plus and for some reason it is still there in the next one, yet in others I'm left with little to work with. It's a little bit difficult to reproduce what's happened to you without a proper example. Maybe you want to replay one of the scenarios, where you...

when I came to this thread, I was expecting 10+ pages of recommended campaigns.
Instead, there were probably 10+ different threads about this very same topic in the meantime. :D

Here's one of the more recent ones, for example: https://forums.wesnoth.org/viewtopic.php?f=6&t=50286

Re: Enemies are afraid to attack ancient liches

I understand the thinking behind why the AI do this, but it can be easily exploited. Of course it can. As well as you can exploit the AI attacking you wildly without paying much attention to terrain or time of day. The AI isn't particularly intelligent, that's why it most often has access to much m...

Re: Enemies are afraid to attack ancient liches

When I played the Secrets of the Ancients campaign , on unpleasant (normal) difficulty, certain enemies weren’t ever tried to attack full health ancient liches. That's because of the lich's drain attack. Attacking an ancient lich with a weak melee attack has a high probability to leave him with mor...

Re: The Rise of Wesnoth (alternative mechanics) UMC add-on for 1.14

Do you know about old carryover system? It was 80% without minimum starting gold. The new one is 40% on top of minimum defined gold. With the old system it was much more important to manage your gold. Yes, I know the old system. I think some of the mainline campaigns still use it, or at least did u...

Re: The Rise of Wesnoth (alternative mechanics) UMC add-on for 1.14

[*]Gold carryover is 5% - 10% instead of 40%. Starting gold is increased. This is done to improve balance. I see why you did that, but I think this would remove any incentive from the game to keep an eye on your treasury. With the regular gold carryover, I see basically three different economical s...
