Re: Do the Elvish Shyde/Sylph fly, or not?

I think vision distance should be a free value Which opens up a new set of abilities based on sight. Keen-eyed (can see +1 hex) for instance. Would make an Elvish Outrider have a huge vision range with the base moves + racial adj + Keen-eyed adj And effects. Blindness (can see =1 hex) which would c...

Re: Strange problem with comma-delimited multi-line lists

There may be non-space whitespace in there. I find it best to use quoted strings when concatenating, especially across lines. ie [era] [multiplayer_side] recruit = "Wose," + "Lich" [/multiplayer_side] [/era] If in doubt, if possible I will sometimes copy the offending section into a tiny testbed cam...

Re: Crash After About a Minute

It might be a good idea to update the main page to say Vista+ or similar then, if the advice for XP users is to use Linux instead. Always good advice, especially for Windows XP, since it's also likely the hardware won't run Windows 10. Many (most?) Linux distributions still support 32-bit systems. ...

Re: Crash After About a Minute

Do I read correctly, you're still running Windows XP? My guess is the issue is your ancient OS. I *might* (not sure) still have an ancient XP virtual machine buried someplace in my backups (used to, but it's been a decade or more since I looked). If I find that old VM, I'll load BfW on it and see if...

Re: Does the game parse events sequentially?

In prestart, the recalled units are there when the map first displays, just as the leader. Think like a movie: are the characters on stage when we fade from black? In start, they arrive after the map displays, as if recalled. Often you'll see the characters move into position from someplace nearby. ...

Re: [HttT] Keeping Merfolk Alive

I usually start with a holding action on land in the south-west while my naval forces hold off the initial rush then gang up on the sea boss. Then, while they're healing I rush the land boss. Back at sea, I sortie a few units in a loop to get the trident, pull back a hex, and take the guardians one-...

Re: Compile messages

Pretty obvious, it's trying to build a comma-separated list for some reason. I can see several style errors. But the increment being on the same line as the if-statement is what the warnings are about. I wouldn't want to fix anything else without studying the code because the style problems I see in...

Re: Compile messages

Hmm from a brief look at that huge file i couldn't see any misleading indentations, you can file a ticker or just post those here in this thread. Here's the one's I remember. $ grep -n '; i++;' animation.cpp 1103: if (i>0) std::cout << ','; i++; 1114: if (i>0) std::cout << ','; i++; 1128: if (i>0) ...

Compile messages

On Arch Linux, after creating a fresh/clean local clone of the git repository and going through the normal cycle of installing the dependencies, the -dev branch of wesnoth compiles and seems to work. I noticed a couple things I wanted to comment upon. I checked the bug tracker and forums and didn't ...

Re: Li'sar's Characterization in HttT (Spoilers)

In thinking more on the motivations of Li'sar, it becomes apparent that her early years are critical. The major factors here are her relationship with her mother, Queen Asheriere. This means I needed to know more about her, as well. The first stop, of course, is the Timeline, and reviewing the event...

Re: Li'sar's Characterization in HttT (Spoilers)

This thread started a bit over a year ago with the question of Li'sar's characterization, and died off after several months after wandering a bit. Excuse me for going back to the OP ... as a relatively new player, I agree with the OP: the character Li'sar does seem contrived and stilted. She does no...

Re: Wesnoth site and forum security allert.

When I first saw this, a few days ago, I immediately checked the certificate chain and everything was fine. I do, however, remember reading and thinking, "Well, it's a mobile device." There are a number of Google results for this issue on Android, most are technical for the programmers, but those fo...

Re: In which cases is it better to get intelligent units?

To my mind, intelligence should be more of a hint for an AI than for players. For example, a 'dumb' unit (opposite of intelligent) would be more apt to simply attack what is next to it without consideration of other factors (such as goals, probability of success or death, etc) while an intelligent u...

Re: Scenario 1: The Elves Besieged

Ah. ESC. That did it, thanks! Here's a replay (version 1.12.5) of my approach. No saves/reloads. 8 recruits, 0 recalls, 3 advancements, 0 losses, 9 kills. Ends on turn 14 with 41 gold (16 bonus to Blackwater Port): Konrad lvl 1 (16/28) Elvish Shaman lvl 1 (11/32) Elvish Shaman lvl 1 (12/26) Elvish R...

Re: Scenario 1: The Elves Besieged

(1) What difficulty level and Wesnoth version have you played the scenario on? Hero(Normal) 1.12.5 (2) How difficult did you find the scenario? (1-10) 6 or 7-ish somewhere I saw an alternate guide for this which makes a LOT more sense. My first run at it it was '1' (hard to fail unless you try) but...
