Re: GUI for editing program file

max_torch: You can also try using "find and replace" feature if notepad has that? It should be very close to what you asked for. If notepad does not have that feature, you could try installing a better text editor. I guess it's common to recommend Notepad++ although I have no personal experience wit...

Re: Has Wesnoth been over-tweaked?

Brutus, you could try playing wesnoth 1.10 or wesnoth 1.8, which were from 2009 or so, and see if its as easy as you remember. You should still be able to download releases of those versions.

Re: Spearmen Balance

+1 Tekelili As nearly as I can tell, wesnoth is not and has never been a "do-ocracy", at least as understood by other open source projects. I used to think that it was, and even said so to others, I think -- all I can say now is that I just saw what I wanted to see. You can see how the Debian projec...

Re: Spearmen Balance

Aldarisvet, part of the problem is the water villages that are in contention. Somehow it is extremely important in Isar for the east and west sides to be able to hold these water villages. If one team can attack and hold the enemy water village, and defend their own, there is tremendous pressure on ...

Re: [interface][engine] Disabling add-ons loading

Just as a comment, if you launch wesnoth with the command line option --noaddons then it will skip loading the addon directory and only load core content. This is used by our testing system. There's no way right now to toggle addons on and off though, or to do it once the game has already started. I...

Well, I think you can make a very, very good guess who did it.

Re: Where are Forum Games gone?

Well it looks like this is yet another reasonable question from a user that will be totally ignored by the powers that be... Anyways, according to the changelogs, Forum Games was deleted from the forums on May 19 2015. Since no one complained in the 7 months since then it seems pretty reasonable to ...

Re: Irdya - Wesmere Reference Implementation

I should clarify though, what I am making would not be "for" this system, so much as, able to support this system, in addition to others. It depends also if fabi will eventually write some much better documentation and examples, I mean, right now I like the idea but the repo is very difficult for an...

Re: Rushed By Yetis

Also: pb_em, can you describe exactly what circumstances the bugs occur under? For instance, with RBY Era only, with RBY Era and map pool, with RBY map pool but not era? Note that using RBY era without the map pool is not supported, it will always lead to a broken replay (it was always that way), an...

Re: Rushed By Yetis

Hi, sorry for slow response. In general I don't check the forums every day and I don't get an email when my threads are posted in -- if you want to make sure I know about something, send me a PM. Cackfiend pm'd me about this in November and I promised to look at it, but I've been busy -- sorry again...

Re: Irdya - Wesmere Reference Implementation

I'm interested in making a nice display client for the system, and I have been tinkering with it a bit. However, it's still pretty experimental and I'm not really ready to announce anything. Nor am I necessarily committed to it -- it depends how the experiments go. If other people want to take a sta...

Re: Magical Attack Icons (part 4 added)

We've gone back and forth on what exactly it means a few times on the forums, if you search you can find some links. Here's an article I am across recently on the subject that wasn't linked in early discussions iirc: http://archive09.linux.com/feature/119212 IIUC the official position of BfW project...

Re: Working on Wesnoth in the browser (via Emscripten)

The deps are nearly all done now I think, but I'm going to take a few weeks off. Wow, I didn't even know that it was possible to build pango on emscripten, I certainly never heard of that :) You know, maybe you should consider to try to incorporate some of that into the "emscripten-ports" system? h...

Re: Working on Wesnoth in the browser (via Emscripten)

Hi, I have worked a lot with emscripten in the last year, glad to hear someone interested in this idea :) IIRC Ancestral was often proposing to port the entire game to node.js but that did not get much traction. However cross-compiling to js would be pretty neat imo, and honestly wesnoth is a great ...

Re: Is it possible to completely disable the Tip of the Day?

zookeeper: I'm not sure if that would work -- if you just delete the widget probably the C++ will crash because it can't find a widget it was expecting to find. You might be able to do something like, set its size to zero or very small by editing the .cfg file, but it will likely be a bit fiddly, I ...
