Re: License question

Actually, there is a company that has a similar role finances-wise, .... Well, as you and I both know, I am well aware of that. But that company is not a charitable foundation, as OP wrote, nor can it accept tax-free donations. The words "foundation" and "donate" do not apply, even setting aside th...

Re: Pick Your Recruits Armageddon (Standard & Extended)

It looks like i did not update the news section of this era for a long, long time. PYRA had a game-breaking bug for a more than 1 year interval, but fortunately those dark times were over. It still contained a bug that prevented linux users from enjoying it, and this is what got fixed today. So go ...

Re: License question

1. You quite possibly can use GPL art in a closed source game. It depends a bit on your use case. The important thing from copyright point of view is, does the combination of the art and the code form a "derivative work" under copyright law. If so, the GPL compels you to apply to apply the GPL to ea...

Re: World Conquest II

Hi tekelili, Thanks for making this add-on, it is really superb. I wanted to suggest that you may want to rename the item "terrific disguise". I know that you are not a native speaker, and this is not a bad name, but as a native speaker, I think the name has some connotation that may be undesirable....

Re: New Campaigns?

I've been around the forum long enough to tell you that discussions about why no new mainline campaigns have been added always end with this argument. I have a very different opinion, even when I am agree with all problems you pointed about mainline campaigns. Imo solution would be not add more mai...

Re: Working on Wesnoth in the browser (via Emscripten)

Code: Select all

em++ -o wesnothd  ...
Hmm, it looks there like you are building "wesnothd", which is the multiplayer server target? Probably you can disable that, I would be surprised if it worked in the browser... That may solve some of your warnings.

Re: Downloaded Replays Showing Only Leader

In the 1.12 cycle, several bad things happened to the save format that took a lot of work to fix before we could release. I remember noticing that server replays were broken, and there is a bug report about it, but we decided that since we could fix this after the release of 1.12, it shouldn't be a ...

Re: [DIY] making html5 wesnoth-themed roguelike

I must confess, I don't completely myself understand the implications of GPL in regards to art, and despite searching, I haven't been able to find a legal authority on the internet that explains it. If someone knows a *very* authoritative explanation, meaning, written by a judge or a lawyer / group ...

Re: [DIY] making html5 wesnoth-themed roguelike

GPL license means that code and art are free to be copied and redistributed, but nobody can charge money for it or for the derived work in any way or form. Btw, Wesnoth is violating its own GPL license by selling Wesnoth on app stores, I think there is a misunderstanding here -- GPL certainly does ...

Re: Ladder Council

It just depends on exactly what conclusions you are looking to draw. If you are looking to demonstrate "every factional matchup is balanced to +/- 5%, with 95% confidence" or something very scientific, then yes you would need a lot more data. If you flip a coin 100 times, the standard deviation is ...

Re: Ladder Council

For example, winrate of 58,6% (17 games out of 29) for rebels is can be just a result of the randomness of any sort. Really, just 17 games of 29, these numbers are not nearly large to be reliable to judge. I like the analysis, but to judge seriously, you really need at least 1000 games. It just dep...

Wow, this thread got very busy while I was gone. So, let me say this, sacretceltic, I'm actually quite sympathetic to many of the things that you said. Also some of the things that I said were not phrased in the best way. So let me try to recap and explain what I now take away from this. The issue i...

Re: Big AI flaw with dead leaders factions

Thoughts: 1) player 2 remaining troops (which just remain quietly in villages and can thus be ignored They might not do this though, right? They might just try to attack for revenge, and kill many more of the AIs units than if he engaged them or zocced them properly. 2) I think you need to take a mo...
