Re: [mainline] Tentacle of the Deep resistances all wrong?

Aren't you conflating unlawfulness with unholiness? Or rather - aren't you being kind of anthropocentric here? An Elf could argue that Humans are fickle creatures prone to moral depravity, little better than Orcs. Anyway, I'd also go for 0% - except if ZooKeeper has some rule-of-thumb that he's app...

Re: [mainline] Tentacle of the Deep resistances all wrong?

humans have 0% resistance in everything else, so it would make more sense to me that the 20% arcane resistance is something extra, which only humans (and some animals) have developed. It was easier explained when "arcane" was still "holy". Humans being mostly lawful creatures are resistant against h...

Re: [mainline] Tentacle of the Deep resistances all wrong?

But I don't think it really matters... because the rest could be balanced via hitpoints. And do you think the hit-points should change? Because I wasn't thinking of suggesting that (or putting it in a potential poll.) The current hp are ok for a lvl 1 unit, but if you make a poll putting it in woul...

Re: [mainline] Tentacle of the Deep resistances all wrong?

It has no natural armor against pierce but no particular weakness to it either, so that's it: 0% resistance. Well humans have 0% resistance, but piercing weapons are a lot more effective since they could hurt internal organs. But I don't think it really matters, as long as we have the "blade is mor...

Re: [mainline] Renaming Khalifate for Wesnoth-ian identity

A solution proposed earlier was to change the one race that makes up the dunefolk faction, from human to jinn or another mythical race of near eastern origin. Changing the race would mean we need to change the unit sprites aswell, which means a lot of work (and throwing away the old ones :( ). We c...

Re: [mainline] Renaming Khalifate for Wesnoth-ian identity

Btw: how is this difference in alignment explained?... Maybe the liminal alignment reflects an unruly nomadic lifestyle while lawful units are from major settlements? (this hypothesis is partially supported by the chaotic alignment of outlaws) Yeah that's basically the explanation. Lawful units fro...

Re: [mainline] Renaming Khalifate for Wesnoth-ian identity

I don't think all the MP factions need to be renamed. They have their flaws, but I think they describe their theme well enough. Loyalists: Are basically the Kingdom of Wesnoth. They could be renamed as "Kingdom of Wesnoth" but this would just sound more complicated. And using "Humans" as faction nam...

Re: [mainline] Renaming Khalifate for Wesnoth-ian identity

Apparently, people are able to learn non-original english words such as "orcs" or "elves", but are magically not able to learn "arif" or "naffat"? If the faction becomes more present in the game, the learning barrier will quickly fall down. Orcs and elves are commonly used in a lot of fantasy. Also...

Re: [mainline] Renaming Khalifate for Wesnoth-ian identity

Faction name doesn't have to be linked to a racial prefix. In fact, none of the existing faction names (Northernes,Rebels...) hint at the prefixes (Orc, Elvish...).
The Khalifate are different though. Since we already have the loyalists, a normal racial prefix (e.g Human warrior) wouldn't work. :hmm:

Re: [mainline] Renaming Khalifate for Wesnoth-ian identity

Faction name seems to describe the relation to the people of wesnoth rather than how the races see themselves. For example orcs wouldn't describe themselve as "northerners" and elves wouldn't be fond of the term "rebels" either, but those names mirror their role in history. Likewise the khalifate mi...

Re: [mainline] Renaming Khalifate for Wesnoth-ian identity

There is also a fundamental flaw with the concept of "liminal" alignment... Liminal units usually have a stronger base attack or other boni to make up for it. And with the liminsl+lawful combination the Khalifate can attack from dusk till dawn where most races only have 2 good times of day. Anyway....

Re: [mainline] Melee "marksman"

"Swordsmanship" might be a good name - as long as it's only used on swordfighters
Alternativley "proficiency" or "prowess" could work, but they sound a bit strange and very broad.

Re: [mainline] Melee "marksman"

I'd prefer option 3 or 4, because "marksman" is indeed a very fitting name for ranged attacks. 3 might not be elegant, but we already use it for the "undead" and "mechanical" traits, so I don't see a big problem. "Weaponmastery" might fit too. Option 4 is less likely to get mainlined because it migh...

Means something like "A worker of wonders and performer of miracles". Unusal, but kinda fitting for this unit.
