Re: [mainline] Changing the Dunefolk's(Khalifate's) race nam

Basically that is my point of contention-- I do not see how drakes (or saurians) are stronger in the desert than dunefolk in the least. This seems more like a question of balance, to be brought up later when the name discussions are done. Well the naffat is strange in that it not only gets a ranged...

Re: [mainline] Changing the Dunefolk's(Khalifate's) unit nam

Maybe it would make more sense to remove the attack. I don't think there'd be any balancing concerns in modifying the khalid, though if an attack is removed it should probably be replaced with something else (maybe he can throw his sword or something, I dunno) How about the infamous pommel-throw :l...

Re: [mainline] Changing the Dunefolk's(Khalifate's) unit nam

I do kinda agree that it's a bit weird for a shieldmaster to level up to something that lacks a shield. Khalid: Warmaster - To me, this sounds the best, given that the unit gives up its shield for a second sword. Warlord would also fit, I think, though that might have a more negative connotation. T...

Re: [mainline] Changing the Dunefolk's(Khalifate's) unit nam

In the unit description the spearmanline is described as "defenders" or "guards". It also says something about "holding the line" so they seem to be used in a battleformation/phalanx. I'd throw in "Phalanxiat" as additional idea - it's not a existing word, but I think most people would understand it.

Re: [mainline] Changing the Dunefolk's(Khalifate's) race nam

I think "Human(Dunefolk)" is the best option. "Dunefolk" is my second favorite.

Xalid just seems strange as race name. Might have worked for faction name, but wasn't even the best option there.

Re: Large scale battles

There is a UMC senario where you have to fight against 1000 walking corpses and even though the AI is programmed to move around 50 units at once it still takes a lot time.
I doubt that anyone can take control over a 100+ unit army without getting bored after a few rounds.

Re: [mainline] Renaming Khalifate for Wesnoth-ian identity

Before we even decide on the unit names, shouldn't there be a discussion whether the lineup needs to be changed? Personally I have no problem with the current lineup, but since there were some mentions of adding new units or replacing old ones... Opposite, would be stupid to have Southerners as unit...

Re: [mainline] Renaming Khalifate for Wesnoth-ian identity

Right now the khalifate are inspired by middle eastern culture, but it doesn't have to remain that way. I mean, the whole name change thing was partly to bring them away from their real life counterpart. Mixing in some elements from other cultures could help giving them a unique identity. But I like...

Re: [mainline] Renaming Khalifate for Wesnoth-ian identity

Why harpies? This fraction is living in dune terrain... More suitable would be vulture. Harpies are fantasy, if needs be they can be inspired by vultures rather than the typical image. Also I don't think the faction only lives in the dune. Their Empire can include terrain more suitable to harpies.

Re: [mainline] Renaming Khalifate for Wesnoth-ian identity

I'd like to see some female units associated with the faction, whether they're female variations of some of the existing units (the hakim/tabib might be a good one to get female variations? ) or uniquely female lines. This gave me an idea. How about replacing the falcons with harpies? I do like the...

Re: Mainline campaign sprites and animations needed

Is the (animal) body still placeholder? 'Cause I think the legs look weird. The hind legs too closer together than the forelegs should be more parallel. Also -just a personal preference- I think there are too many shades of brown for the fur (10, whereas the horse has only 6) Otherwise it looks amaz...

Not specifically the dark adept - any unit with no melee attack. (Such as the L1 mudcrawler.)
I think t plays when the other unit is very likely to die, so either when there's no melee or if the unit is very low hp.

Re: [mainline] Tentacle of the Deep resistances all wrong?

Aren't you conflating unlawfulness with unholiness? Or rather - aren't you being kind of anthropocentric here? An Elf could argue that Humans are fickle creatures prone to moral depravity, little better than Orcs. Anyway, I'd also go for 0% - except if ZooKeeper has some rule-of-thumb that he's app...

Re: [mainline] Tentacle of the Deep resistances all wrong?

humans have 0% resistance in everything else, so it would make more sense to me that the 20% arcane resistance is something extra, which only humans (and some animals) have developed. It was easier explained when "arcane" was still "holy". Humans being mostly lawful creatures are resistant against h...

Re: [mainline] Tentacle of the Deep resistances all wrong?

But I don't think it really matters... because the rest could be balanced via hitpoints. And do you think the hit-points should change? Because I wasn't thinking of suggesting that (or putting it in a potential poll.) The current hp are ok for a lvl 1 unit, but if you make a poll putting it in woul...
