are big maps a problem?

hi i remember that i somewhere heared, that big maps (like 100x100)make game and ai quite slow, so before writing a scenario with a lage map i'd like to know mot about this.
Do large maps also slow down Mp scnearios or only the Ai?
Is this realy important if there only 20 enemy ai units?

Re: "Age of Empires"-Based Campaign

so the only realtion between your campaign and AoE is that is is set in a "(more) realistic Ancient World period" ? mean for example the AP thing to customize your units have nothing to do with AoE and the story neigher, maybe i wouldn't call it AoE. if you want to make your campign like Aoe sou cou...

Re: how to convert your savegame file to xml, for easy viewi

if i remember correcty there are also some wml editors out there wich support collapse / expand wml tags. a toplevel is not just something your browser requires is is something that must be there according to the xml standart. at third i realy think if you do something like this, a xml2wml would als...

Re: custom AMLA and modify recruits

i dont reccomend looking at UtbS amla codes as novice. Form my impression it is not much easier to understand than LotI.

Re: Legend of the Invincibles (now complete)

when i played den of evil (quiet some time ago), i ended up in a 1 hex thin and 10 hex long corridor with some units on the one side and > 60 enemy units on the other side, it was very strange, and was the scenario with the most turns ever in wesnoth. ps: with one of the non hero unit are your favou...

Re: make a unit attack

ye it would, i think the attack.cpp::attack_unit function doesnt rely on the attacker standing next to the defnder, mabe just adding a range, and a statndardunit filter to the [atttack] tag wouldnt be that hard to implement. i think you can write the attack prediction pane completely in lua, and get...

Re: wesnoth crashing after event

first of all the message points to line 492 of unit_map.hpp wich is part of the core and not part of you addon source. i know nothing about that part of the source but some other informaiosn are always helpful: 1) does that problem appears with other versions of wesnoth (10.6, or 11.5 for example) a...

Re: Going Windows!

I loathe Eclipse. why?? Is there a way to run the application from inside VS? I could only find a debug option and that's very, very slow... (by the way, what is the reason for Microsofts's debugger being a hell lot slower than gdb?) what exactly is slow, running the programm, compiling, setting a ...

Re: Going Windows!

i'd reccomend you vs 2012 even though i have nerver used it. from msdnaa you should also be able to get the ultimate version for free. it might be a little ugly but recently found a page that explains how to change the skin to make it look more like vs 2010/2008. the reasons are simply the newer fea...

Re: self compiled version crashes related to save_index

i dont need detailed debug information to determiene weather it crashes or not. and i am fully aware of the qualitiy of the infomration i get if i debug in release mode, and if i think that information cannot help me i'll compile it again in debug mode. plus i have't noticed any bad lack of speed wh...

Re: self compiled version crashes related to save_index

Re: self compiled version crashes related to save_index

well, good to know im not the only one without that problem. EDIT2: it seemes like my proposed fix causes another error sometimes, so i deleted it from this post. EDIT: I'm afraid there are zero devs using MSVC 2010 (me 2008) but I assume those are small fixes anyway ? i deleted the msvc2010 fixes f...

self compiled version crashes related to save_index

hi i recently tried to compile wesnoth on my own using visual studio 2010 (on windows 7). After i got rid of some VS 2010 specific bugs, it started well. but after i have played with the self compiled version a few times, the game always closes itself when loading from a safefile or starting a new c...
