Re: Desormer[fan-fic]

I've used this method before when explaining quite detailed technical information to a French-speaker, he didn't realize that I had used a translator and in fact complimented me on speaking excellent French! I guess it depends on what you are trying to translate...if it doesn't work well, don't use ...

Re: Desormer[fan-fic]

Oh dear, help is needed! Don't take that the wrong way, but there are quite a few problems here (though nothing that can't be fixed). I don't mean to sound rude when I say that, but be aware that I am both a professional writer of fiction and a native English speaker - so when it comes to writing cr...

Re: Alternate Levelling system

You can easily stop a unit from leveling-up through experience - in the unit file, write 'advances_to=null' and then DO NOT write {AMLA_DEFAULT} (or any other AMLA - I believe all normal units that can't advance have an AMLA defined for them, but there's no reason why they have to). The other part, ...

Re: Avian Faction portraits and sprites

The position of the shadow should remain relatively constant (since the unit is bobbing vertically and not moving horizontally) But judging by the shading, the unit (like all well-drawn Wesnoth sprites) is not lit from directly above, but rather from above and to one side. So surely the shadow woul...

Re: Avian Faction (The faction of winged people)

However, it might be my chart being confusing, but the 60HP was for the lvl 2 variation XD Actually I found the chart easy to read. What I mean is that, even at level 2, 60HP is excessive for a light skirmishing unit (for comparison, Dwarvish Steelclad has 59, Loyalist Pikeman 55 and Undead Revenan...

Re: Avian Faction (The faction of winged people)

Grrrr, my @#$&ing computer died on me this morning and I lost everything I've done in the last couple of months  :augh: :x  So I had to re-start on the flight ability, trying to reconstruct what I'd written from memory and common-sense. I agree that the AI issue is not of the greatest i...

Re: Avian Faction (The faction of winged people)

What I'm hoping to do is to side-step AI coding completely, by making the AI think that something will happen which it already knows how to deal with. Like I said, my current idea is to use a highly-undesirable weapon special which affects the Avians in melee combat - so the AI will try to avoid mel...

Re: Avian Faction (The faction of winged people)

Flying ability is still a work-in-progress, but my current plan for it (to address AI issues) is that it happens automatically when conditions are met, so the AI doesn't get a choice of using it or not. There is still a problem that the AI can't anticipate anything inside [event] tags, so it won't a...

Re: Avian Faction portraits and sprites

Yeah, what Crendgrim said. The sprites are fantastic, and it's nice that you've (A) animated them and (B) done it really well - if you look at most user-made factions, they are rarely animated and very rarely so well-drawn. Along with Crendgrim I'm happy to help with the code, I'm working on the Fly...

Re: Too many campaingns have you fighting orcs/undead.

Cannibalism as established practice would likely lead to a much stricter population control by ecological limits than anything else, the argument of demographic pressure really collapses then. They don't necessarily have to intentionally kill one another for the cooking pot - maybe they eat their o...

SlowThinker wrote:Will the jammed hexes be covered by fog (and so the presence of jamming unit will be revealed) or not?
Would it be possible for this to be specified as an option within the ability?
I can think of cases where either would be desirable, and it would be nice to have the flexibility.

And why does a troll need a helmet when there is about nothing on two legs that might hit him on the head? Um, arrows? Disclaimer: I know nothing about digital art - I lose all artistic talent and insight as soon as you take my charcoal away... The troll warrior looks incredible so far, as does Lio...

Re: WML getting started

Find the location on your computer where downloaded add-ons are saved (an easy way to find them is perform a search for all tfiles with the extension .cfg, then identify the ones that aren't part of the main game itself - all of Wesnoth's user-readable or user-created files are .cfg's). Once you hav...

Re: Inferno8 IS GOD!!!!

I couldn't agree more with everything Lipk said. TLU is (reasonably) well-put-together, and extremely original in its graphical style. But for me, it just wasn't fun (sorry, Inferno8!), and the map design (the ones I saw, at least) seemed pretty questionable. To be honest, I was almost put off by th...
