Re: Elvish Rangers vs. Elvish Marksmen

I've re-evaluated Marksmen in light of this thread's responses. I leveled one Ranger and one Marksmen during HttT and played around to see strengths and weaknesses. I have found that Marksmen are quite useful, more so than I previously thought. If there is a level 2 Orc standing on a bridge that I n...

Re: Isle of the Damned

I found a replay in the feedback thread where there were some small, key differences that saved the day: - Konrad stayed and recruited a steady stream of Footpads until losing gold (I never do this, I'm a huge banker on long campaigns) - Merman assassin team was larger. They went south and a unit wa...

Re: Isle of the Damned

Okay, the merman assassin team clearly isn't going to work. This time was even worse around-- I didn't even spring the mage. Sprung the god-awful revenant, though. I'm posting a replay, hopefully it will give some insight.

Re: Isle of the Damned

Basically, get a good few units heading north, recruit/recall mermen for south, also have a few ground units defending southern forest edge, and have konrad or another unit or two get the mage. The tricky part is, Konrad never seems to reach the temples fast enough, and it's insanely easy to get pi...

Isle of the Damned

This one is kicking my butt. I've used two strategies so far, but have been utterly decimated both times. Strategy 1-- Recalled merman w/ Storm Trident. Sent him and both other mermen south with the intention of slipping around and assassinating the South Lich. Have Outlaw and bulk of main army hole...

Re: A little question

If you're playing a campaign, put your leader in the field once recruiting is done.

Elvish Rangers vs. Elvish Marksmen

I always upgrade archers into Rangers. The ability to be invisible in forests, set up ambushes, and sneak behind enemy lines is just too awesome to pass up. But I was curious if a Marksmen would provide any benefits over a Ranger, so I chose that line for one of my archers in AOI. I found that the s...

Re: Best elf for defense

Shamans and archers. Shamans are important both on the front line and as healers behind the line. You may also want to send a fodder unit sprinting in another direction-- the AI tends to chase them and it takes some pressure off your front line.

Re: Scenario Review: Liberty 8 - Glory

(1) What difficulty level and version of Wesnoth have you played the scenario on? 1.85 Normal (2) How difficult did you find the scenario? (1-10) 7 (3) How clear did you find the scenario objectives? Somewhat clear... going into each of the four towers instead of just killing the enemy leader was d...

Re: How to defend against village-snatching distractions?

This isn't specific to your battle, but to counter villlage-grabbing in general. Locate the villages that are on favorable terrain, making them easy to defend against attack. Consider the possibility of an enemy counter attack. If you find a village that is on good terrain and won't be swarmed by th...

Re: Tips on village grab

You don't want more than 2 scouts grabbing villages, generally speaking. A large group of scouts may be good for grabbing villages faster, but try holding your own against an army with more diverse units. :D

Re: Invincible unit?

I am currently eight scenarios into HttT, and I find that my usual strategy of using cavalry to deliver killing blows hasn't worked. Why? Because out of the ten or so horsemen I've recruited and countless attacks/counter attacks, I have not landed a single blow. Even if the enemy only has 30% defens...

Leveling footpads, thugs

I am playing the Liberty campaign and having difficulty leveling up footpads and thugs. Leveling archers is not very difficult, because I am usually presented with many opportunities to attack without dealing with a ranged counter-attack. Even though footpads have 70% defense on certain terrain, the...

I do not particularly feel that footpads are overpowered against UD. When they take a hit from a stronger unit, they are basically done for-- the trick is landing the blow, and avoiding a swarm.

Re: Fighting Mass Footpads as Undead

I haven't had too much trouble with footpads as UD, as long as I avoid putting myself in a situation where I can be swarmed. The two major problems I have with footpads as UD (and frankly, with footpads in general) are: having a unit getting swarmed and killed, and having to break through a screen o...
