Re: Offering Storylines.

The only canonical knowledge we have of the time prior to 200 BW (the Rise of Wesnoth backstory) is this: * Birth of the world. (And then, Dave said "Let there be light." And there was light.) * Elves and Dwarves inhabit the Great Continent. * Humans inhabit the distant West. * Haldric's people colo...

Re: Dragonguard resistances

I would argue that the other dwarven units, being the infantry, are the ones that get better armor as they show prowess in combat, and consequently higher weapon resistances. The dragonguards, being primarily ranged(though not exclusively), would be the ones that instead had access to the best boom...

Re: Undead Cookbook - A Strategy Guide for My Brother

A recent game drake vs undead taught me that the match up is all about DAs hitting 1/2 or 2/2. If UD got 80% time hitting 2/2 instead of supposed 50%, Drakes would get pwned, even during day. If the 2/2 rate is 50%, then the game is decided by players. Well, the baseline probability is a 49% chance...

Dragonguard resistances

I've noticed something about the Dwarvish units in campaigns. All of the standard Dwarf units ("standard" meaning non-Gryphon, non-Ulf) get a fair bit tougher and more survivable as they level-up, in forms apart from just extra HP. The Steelclad and Lord get improved resistances. The Stalwart gets i...

Re: campaign order

The campaigns' chronological order is clearly stated in the link SpenceLack provided, even if you have to read through a lot of other material to find them all. So to make it simple, here's the order of the mainline campaigns as determined by reading through the History page: The Rise of Wesnoth An...

Re: Undead

:!: Sentience Usually, undeads are considered mindless slaves to their creators. However, not only liches and death knights are said to be sentient, ghosts have shown a will even in mainline campaigns. In addition, the descriptiom of the skeletons say they would fight to find rest.So the question is:...

Re: Undead Cookbook - A Strategy Guide for My Brother

Ah I see trying to poach me for Drake strategies eh? XD I would go clashers and fighters and just delay to high heaven til you can make an attack at dawn (if you are second player) or early day (if you are first player) I would just make sure it is day when your opponent strikes back cuz those adep...

Re: Orcs, orcs, orcs

Well... if human level-1 melee units (Spearmen) have to use spears, due to them being cheap and easy to acquire and train with, then why do the Elves' level-1 units (Elvish Fighters) use swords? Their swords are pretty finely crafted too, not sharpened slabs of metal like the Orcs' swords. And this ...

Re: Campaign "checklist"

in 1.7 it checks off the whole campaign when finished..as for checking also diff levs?..iuno i'm sceptical about that, personally i play camps to get a nice story and some fun maps, so once i go through once it doesn matter if it has other difficulties to try out Except... in 1.7, DiD never gets ti...

Re: Modest ability proposal: Finesse

Hmm... so the ball keeps rolling. Losing 1 MP in exchange for marginally higher attack accuracy against a few units actually feels like a slight nerf, to me. It's making an already niche unit less useful in general and more useful in certain cases. I agree, especially with the new, weaker ability pr...

Re: Modest ability proposal: Finesse

Evasive units already have pretty low HP and negative resistances in most cases. If anything having high def% makes killing them exceedingly random. It's either 2 or 3 lucky hits -> dead, or the units survives after tons of misses (or even all misses). Also, I find it interesting how the 40% -> 50%...

Re: WSAS: Milestone Three

I think they're the Flare and Flameheart. One thing, though, is that there is a difference between their blades and the Fighter/Clasher lines' blades. The Fighter/Clasher have blades parallel to their claws, so that the same action they would use for a claw swipe could be used for slashing with thei...

Re: SURVEY: A (Hopefully) More Accurate Popularity Contest

Campaigns What is your most favorite mainline campaign? Why? Delfador's Memoirs. It gives you a feel of actually going around Wesnoth saving the kingdom from the Undead, and the Orcs. You control about 3 different armies, which sometimes get combined here and there, and are able to control a wide, ...

Re: Modest ability proposal: Finesse

After all, fencers don't show up enough in campaigns already... You mean "don't show up at all ". No mainline campaign features playable Fencers when just about everything else, from Orcs to Drakes, is playable in some campaign or the other. They only show up as AI-controlled mooks whenever you hav...

Re: Legend of Wesmere - Costly Revenge: 1.7 is super tough

I posted a replay of a 1.7.5 Costly Revenge play-through in a pretty recent thread . But then, I had a lot of gold, and the scenario objectives said that I wouldn't be keeping it, so I converted it into hordes of disposable Elvish Fighters which I sometimes sacrificed just to keep things rolling at ...
