Re: B.U.R.S. (Bizarre and Unusual Recruit Styles)

One last orc hammer (I swear)! This one vs... omg... a good opponent! Rather long game, resulting in the biggest amount of bloodshed since the invention of the sword. Seriously, I challenge any of you to top the amount of grunts I lost, while still managing to win the match. grunt_hammer_vs_Veliq.gz

Re: 2vs2 etiquette - what to do if your partner is a moron?

On the premise that two minds are better than one, I often drop labels with suggestions all over the map, just to point out things that my ally might not have thought of . I usually form them as questions, though (i.e., "Fighter here?") to make it clearer that I'm not trying to play my ally's units...

Re: 2vs2 etiquette - what to do if your partner is a moron?

I've got a great story to tell... So, this one time, I'm playing Isar's. I'm undead, my ally chooses loyalists. He recruits a bunch of guys and sends them immediately out to the middle. This was back before the starting time was set to random, btw. And it was on the old, tiny Isar's. I can't remembe...

I give you my most strategically sophisticated BURS strategy to date... I call it: THE GRUNT HAMMER !!! grunt_hammer.gz grunt_hammer_4.gz Special thanks to Kard for being such a sport and not calling me names after seeing my initial recruit. Anyways, the strategy goes as follows: 1) build lots of g...

Re: Blitzkrieg! (the value of speed in Wesnoth)

Hornshark, Knalgans against Rebels. He committed leader suicide on turn five after letting me trap his leader. I made a mistake with my recruits, and a couple of other small mistakes. :hmm: Looked pretty good to me. It's kinda funny... sometimes you get so focused on economy, counter-recruiting, et...

Re: Improving My Game

Your opponent was not a very good player. Generally it is a very bad idea to assault undead at night. You got away with it this time, but most of the time (especially if your opponent is more skilled) it would have been suicide. I pretty much agree with Velensk's assessment. First mistake I noticed...

Re: Dodgy characters as leaders

Start playing some bigger maps. Picking drakes on Isar's allows your opponent to easily counter-recruit. And that's exactly what I wanted. :D Then I can practice my "counter-counter-recruiting". :lol2: Playing Isars showed me (in a rather painful way) which are the shortcomings of Drakes. I guess I...

Re: Selectable Unit Traits: A Proposal for Future Versions

If you're saying that Wesnoth should be more like Warcraft then all I have to say is  I do like the original idea but still think that there should be a cost associated with choosing your units stats. If that's the case, I'd say that WINW (wesnoth is not warcraft) Also, I'd say that if you li...

Re: Selectable Unit Traits: A Proposal for Future Versions

People who prefer randomness over strategy are, by and large, poor players. People who prefer wesnoth over chess are, by and large, poor players. I can't speak for every strategy game player out there, but in general the more aspects of a game that I can control, the better. Why? More things to con...

Go ahead, make the era and see how it plays! :) I think it's great that you've volunteered to take on such an inspiring project - I wish more people would quit their whining and do something to change what they want different themselves, just like you are. I can't help but notice a touch of sarcasm...

Re: Selectable Unit Traits: A Proposal for Future Versions

BTW, does all the traits (that a unit can get) are equally probable? (ie: 25% each with the 4 default traits) In that case, getting one single trait that you want has a 50% chance: 25% getting it as the first trait. From the other 75%, there's a 33% (one out of the three remaining) of getting it as...

Re: Selectable Unit Traits: A Proposal for Future Versions

Part of what makes strategy games interesting is overcoming obstacles. Poor terrain, overpowered enemy forces, and bad luck . You want to make the game less random. Welcome to FPI #1. I thought you were suggesting letting the player choose at the beginning of a scenario which traits would be more c...
