Re: Books discussion

In no particular order over the past few months: A Song of Ice and Fire: dang, quite a series. I'm thoroughly impressed to find an author who portray really, REALLY realistic people - the utterly amoral ones, the ones who survive by being that way. And equally, doesn't shy away from killing off the ...

Re: LordBob's commissionned work

Given the amount of double-bitted war axes Wesnoth isn't particularly successful in limiting oversized weapons. In particular the sketch for the alternative troll hero is pretty much over the top regarding weapon size for my taste. I don't disagree with the rule of cool: But since when padded plast...

Re: Official Specifications for Art Section of the Wiki

There really isn't a standard for that. It's been 'what looks best' for most of the existence of the game - but that's not to say that standardisation is bad, just that it's never really happened.

Re: LordBob's commissionned work

Great to see you back! Been watching with avid interest. Have to say, this is looking very cool - I'm not sure, though, about the rope dreads, they feel a little out of place to me. I'd also tone down the eyes just a touch, and add some more variation to them. They stand out too much for my liking a...

Re: Books discussion

Yes, Furies of Calderon works alone, but the series as a whole is also worth reading, and not all that long (6 books, but they're individually very quick reads).

Re: Books discussion

Been reading the Codex Alera over the past few weeks. DANG, but Jim Butcher can write. Great series, great fun, great imagination. I was expecting a lot after the Dresden Files, and he really delivered. Now reading the latest Horus Heresy, and not really quite getting on board with it. For some reas...

Re: Official Specifications for Art Section of the Wiki

I would concur with your assessment. Jetrel has been using opaque blurs for quite a while IIRC.

Re: Books discussion

Just finished Warbreaker, and I can only say that I TOTALLY called the ending with the
Spoiler:
. No worse for it, though, great book.

And yeah, this ereader is going to hurt my wallet. Dresden Files books are worth it though. Currently reading Moby-Dick, or The Whale.

Re: Walking Corpse; Soulless

Thanks, but your skill level is not currently up to working on mainline artwork. Your skills would be welcomed by UMC authors. Also, we've been studiously avoiding the WCs and Soullesses when it comes to portraits, partly because they have so little dialogue, and partly because it's a can of hideous...

Re: Books discussion

Just finished the Lies of Locke Lamora, and wottabook. Very nice con novel, really well-built and intriguing world, and some laugh-out-loud brilliantly audacious moment. Very entertaining. Will be getting the next one, if and when it's out. Also am now the proud owner of a kobo e-reader, so I will f...

Re: Books discussion

Just read The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo. And watched the film. In the same 24 hour period. Somewhat harrowing experience, but dang if that isn't a good book (and film). I really wanna check out the rest of the trilogy now.

Re: Some portrait edits/palette request

There's not a problem with either of these portraits. The Kalenz one, in particular, is the outline of where his arm goes into his armour, not of his biceps.

In general unsolicited edits are unnecessary.

Re: Hints for a newcomer in artworking

Indeed.

As long as the last frame can be a corpse, it doesn;t necessarily need to be face down, and a realistic, curling-up death anim is likely to be preferable for the spider.
