Re: vultraz's lua questions

What is the value of the 'name=' key in your [event] tag? The error you're getting suggests to me that you're using a type of event which doesn't define a 'unit' variable. Maybe you could post your whole [event] tag?

Re: [Announcement] No RND Mod

This mechanic is so common in other games that I have to ask: What purpose does it serve? It's just barely random enough to obscure the combat rules, but not random enough to really influence the battle. The only reason for it that I can think of is that proprietary game developers want to make it ...

Re: vultraz's lua questions

For what it's worth, I always found these set_something_metatable functions confusing since they hide the underlying syntax a wml table requires; I'd have had an easier time learning it without them. For that matter, functions and WML macros always hide their underlying power, but we have to use th...

also, random distribution for damage is +-10%. For gameplay this generally means +-1 point of damage sometimes. Re: Ceres' Lua Problems

A WML table is a table that can be translated directly to WML. They're very complicated to type without using set_wml_tag_metatable. The following Lua and WML are equivalent: Lua: H = wesnoth.require('lua/helper.lua') T = H.set_wml_tag_metatable{} { --x, y, and radius are WML attributes x = 84, y = ...

What is it referring to?
When you make a new unit type, and you want to give it heal+4, give it an [abilities] tag and invoke that macro.

Re: Crendgrim's Lua Thread

My guess is that the proxy table needs special non-WML data in order to work, hence the incorrect element 1. Maybe you could use helper.get_variable_array instead of get_variable_proxy_array.

Ninja'd, but am I right?

Re: Magic the Gathering campaign

If anyone wants to make a campaign like this, please feel free to adapt my code from TCG Era. (You will need to know Lua.) It's on both the 1.8 and 1.9 add-on servers. I'll be happy to answer any questions (which might prompt me to put better comments in my code). Heck, I might be persuaded to write...

Re: Wesnoth 1.9.8

I don't see the reason to forbid players to do it(nor why you call it a " dirty invisible hack"), perhaps someone wants to do it to make the recruit list more neat and organized(duh)? The recruit list needs to be alphabetical by default, because that's the easiest way for players to find ...

Royal Death 0.3.3

I've created my first MP scenario. It's been on the 1.8 add-on server for a while, but I haven't announced it until now (except in my sig). It's 9-player, and the description is as follows: "A free-for-all with minimal gold, making it a death match among leaders. It also has 3 special rules: 1....

Re: creating a check for units with identical ids

You could put an [if] around each [unit] tag. Untested example: [if] [not] [have_unit] id=Bigpig1 [/have_unit] [/not] [then] [unit] side=2 type=Gorer id=Bigpig1 x=6 y=3 [/unit] [/then] [/if] (I normally just use Lua if I need an if statement, so I apologize if this doesn't work.)

Re: Ubuntu and save locations.

To make sure I understand you correctly: You have a dual-boot Ubuntu/Windows machine. You want to run Wesnoth on both OSes, but both installations need to store their userdata in the same place. I haven't used Windows since before Wesnoth came out, but I'll try to help you out. First, you need to de...

Re: How to update wesnoth version? [Ubuntu]

Actually, Ubuntu 10.04 is an old release. (Although it's the latest LTS.) I'm sure they don't have the latest wesnoth. First, make sure you have the backports repository enabled. If that doesn't work, you have to either install wesnoth from source or upgrade Ubuntu.

Re: Install over previous version?

Your game saves should be in a whole separate directory. They hopefully should not be effected by uninstalling Wesnoth. I don't know your OS, so please check EditingWesnoth#Where_is_my_user_data_directory.3F to make sure.

Re: Wesband 0.6.0, improved inventory management

@Velensk: Are you using henchmen? Now that we can control henchmen's equipment, I very often have to go straight to "Manage equipment" after picking up items. Doing it the old way would be more difficult for me, as I'd have to do another right-click for inventory every time.
