Re: Khalifate Vs Mass Trolls Or Drakes

I don't believe he is referring to the thought of literally recruiting only trolls. Included in are wolf riders and naga as needed. You will be fighting on equal income. The issue that the Khalifate have when fighting trolls is that they simply don't have any cost efficient units that provide the da...

Re: the slow effect has never been correct

I'm not sure what kind of unanticipated effect you're thinking. The implications seem pretty strait forward to me. As it currently stands, slow at least halves your movement reach and will frequently do more. It renders terrain that takes more than half your movement completely un-enterable. The pro...

Re: the slow effect has never been correct

I think that the slow effect was always intended to be that crippling. It used to be that slow did in fact, decrease the number of strikes on each attack instead of halving damage. This was changed because it gave slow a very lopsided effect vs 2 strike as opposed 4 strike units that was difficult t...

Re: Is it reasonable to play most campaigns without recallin

Depends how you get your 'fun'. For me it isn't that different than how I normally play save that I normally recall leaders and healers and on difficult missions or ones that require special skills I'll splurge on veterans. In a way, it is kind of fun to fight your way through challenges without tho...

Re: Is it reasonable to play most campaigns without recallin

It's not hard to do with HttT at least. I don't think I've tried it with any of the others. I would expect that in many cases it'd be less about the campaigns overall 'difficulty' rating and more about their design. Some campaigns are rather reliant on the player having capabilities that the only ge...

Perhaps you should think twice before laughing.

It may not be funny either way.

Re: Multiplayer Replay Analysis

In general, I don’t recommend playing against the AI as a way to improve. Playing against an AI is a different challenge than playing against a player. Even if you give the AI extra gold to make up for it, that’s still just moving the challenge even further away from being relevant. It’s theoretical...

Re: Multiplayer Replay Analysis

Turn 1/2: No Comment Turn 3: So I’m guessing that this is the turn where you say you didn’t see the thieve chance to backstab. This is a pretty big mistake and could have been prevented by placing the clasher one space further away which would have been the stronger position even if he didn’t have a...

Re: Multiplayer Replay Analysis

Turn 1: No a major concern but if you're going for two scouts, it's frequently better to split them up so that they can provide vision on both sides. I also find that this also lets me get into an aggressive position quicker. Turn 2/3: No Comment Turn 4: This may sound odd but I probably would have ...

Re: Multiplayer Replay Analysis

Turn 1: The first thing I notice is that your opening recruit is not optimized to grab villages quickly. The other key thing is if you look at the map layout the forward keep for your side is up on the left, your leader moved to grab a village instead of that way which means that you're going to hav...

Re: Guide to ANL (A New Land)

If you provide a replay then it'd be easier to give advice on it.

The basic form though, is that you shouldn't have difficulty establishing a baseline defense by turn 8. You may not have ZoC but if you have a wall with no holes in it, they won't be getting through anyway.

Re: Panther Lord (EoFM campaign)

Thanks for playing all the way through. Better sprites and animations would be nice but I have to work with what I'm given. Drawing and animating an entire era is a massive project to ask somebody to do for free and I feel lucky to simply have unique base sprites for the entire era. Everything else ...

Re: what mainline campaign to take on next

A thought on that question, let me answer that question for any campaign. No it isn't balanced, it's against impossible odds with enemies outnumbering you more than 2:1 and other strange conditions imposed. If it wasn't it'd be easy and boring. The AI just isn't that good. The key point though, is t...

Re: Balancing changes in 1.13 cycle?

I actually believe thieves are quite good, however their value does diminish immensely once the board starts filling. They are also -only- good in situations where you have initiative or in which your opponent is overextending, the first of which is a real issue for knalgans and the second is an unl...

Re: Balancing changes in 1.13 cycle?

Oh I fully agree that the problems with the loyalist vs knalgan match-up are far more in the cavalry than the heavy infantry. However, I think you'll see in many matches including a few (though not all) high level matches that the loyalists will grab exactly one heavy infantry to stick on a village ...
