Re: AI and multiplayer

The chat function or the command window might be a useful way for human teamates to exert some control over AI team mates. One could program the AI to give a list of commands it accepts to allies at the start of the game, and then accept them via chat or Command window. Such as; 1) Defensive 2) Agre...

Re: Announcing the Formula AI Branch

I can't say I've ever heard of Silver Tree before, but I have experience with both programming and Wesnoth play. I spend the majority of my free time playing wesnoth, and I am spending some of that free time working on the saved game parser for the wesnoth ladder. I've wanted to work on a Wesnoth AI...

Re: Ranks and ranked games

Username and password is optional for the server to start storing game stats. All we REALLY need is a marker next to user names who have played 10 or less games on the server... sure it would be annoying to have someone steal my usernames... but its already annoying when that happens! We shouldn't l...

Re: How to Play Isar's Cross

I've added more material for the guide on the first page titled How to Fight in Isars. This post is mainly for the players who are new, and have a lot to learn. If you have a style of play for isars that you feel fits into a third category lets add categories!

Re: State of the multiplayer server

We love Wesnoth, and I am sure the community can work out a more robust solution for the best open source strategy game on the Internet :) Five possible solutions that wouldn't take but a few hours to implement: 1) A quick programming fix for this problem: Don't force everyone to connect to the same...

Re: Time to fix the 1,4 server ?

The server instability is not related to Admin instated reboots. The server drops connections repeatedly, then refuses to accept reconnects. I can ping the server, I can telnet to the game port 15000... yet when I use the wesnoth client to connect nothing happens... sometimes after 10 minutes or so ...

Re: How to Play Isar's Cross

Discussion only No guide material here ". I did some tests against elves and dwarves and in all cases I was able to fight drakes off with acceptable loses." "Acceptable losses" is the whole point to the Drake start. By the time you start "fighting them off", they have already retreated. You want to...

Discussion post not part of the guide. This discussion is wonderful, I'd like to see some posts from some of our really strong Isar's players out there, you know who you are. Mabuse is absolutely correct about using your leader to defend your water village. Although his post is a bit hard to unders...

How to Fight in Isars So we've beat the discussion of water villages, scouts, fish, recruitment, and leader placement to death. Now it is time to learn what to do once you've got the basics of recruitment and the water village. There are two categories of solid play for Isar's cross, one is a more ...

Clashers are the unit your missing with first strike added in 1.3 they are the dread of a horseman. (in 1.2 Drake are hurting vs loyalist, but that was why it was fixed in 1.3) Augers and Skirms counter spearmen, but Clashers are the counter to horsemen. He will look to charge you during the day, so...

How to Play Isar's Cross

To Clarify: This Post ONLY covers Isar's cross tactics. Isar's is a very specialized map, and gameplay from Isars does NOT translate perfectly to Clash, Charge, or Blitz. Isar's cross is arguably the most popular Wesnoth map currently played because it provides quick combat, yet has enough room for ...

I find it more fun to play 1 player against two AI on three player maps, it causes the AI to come at you more consistantly, which somewhat makes up for thier VERY bad ability to group units.

I have it running on a different ubuntu 6.06 machine myself... For some reason the apt-get isn't installing the header .h in /usr/lib/include. Someone (probably me) needs to make a .deb package for 1.2 that works on ubuntu's current version. The ones posted on the forum have dependecy issues unless ...

Ubuntu 6.06 and wesnoth 1.2 compile problems

Let me start by saying, Yes, I believe I have all of the required dependencies, both the documented and undocumented ones. (Both the runtime and the poorly labeled "development" packages... I have some experience both with software compilation and Ubuntu. And I have installed wesnoth from source sev...
