Your posts about team play are right on the money. 90%+ of the people I play with every day never get to the point of even considering their ally other than to blame them for losing. If a player can learn to attack at good time of day and retreat at bad time of day they've learned half of everything...

Ideally, such a fictional provisional player that's beating top ladder players 10 times in a row, SHOULD gain the 400-500 points and be sitting near the top of the ladder at the end of their 10 games. this way they're not too severely underrated once their rating is treated as real. Pelopedis, Almost everything in your post has little to do with the current ladder system because we do not use a RD-based system or anything close to it. Rigidity is the point of the guide. Flexibility makes things too complicated to learn. If you can make yourself a rigid set of rules which you can follow 90% of the time... you will do better with a lot less thought. You can first learn the rules, then and only then start to work out the exceptions!...
