Re: Wesband 0.4.4, now with 4 players

Yes, they do get less efficient to a degree. I'm actually working on the magic system right now, so that's on my mind at the moment. What I've got going for now is a system where mana is only expended to the extent that you're actually using the magic. For example, the way it currently is, if you cu...

Re: [mainline] mage lvl 0

No real need for this in mainline, but I just wanted to add that some people have worked on this for UMC. For example: http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=19&t=19484

Re: Introducing myself

I ended up doing the ethnography on the nerd club (fantasy, anime, gaming, sci-fi) on my college's campus. It wasn't very difficult as I ended up hanging out with them a lot later. I definitely took the easy way out. I kind of regret it if just for that. Again, lots of luck with this project.

Re: Introducing myself

Interesting. I also did an ethnography while an undergrad and almost did it on the subject of an online gaming community, but was scared that it would be too difficult. As far as your subject goes, I'd like to point out that there is more than one type of "user" for Wesnoth. Some of us play the game...

Re: [mainline] rename "poison" to "poison +8"

Yeah, before anything like this happens, we would need poison to work like heals (i.e. uncoupled from a constant value). As an option, I'd would suggest giving a cured_with or cured_threshold key which makes it so a unit is poisoned with a poison that has cured_with=X, then that unit gets cured if i...

Re: Difficulties with Random Variables

Other than the first_time_only key, it look good to me. Are you saying this doesn't work or are you just unsure if it will work?

The RANDOM macro works. Also, if you want to use other variables, you can use the rand key within VARIABLE_OP, i.e. {VARIABLE_OP foo rand "0..2"} .

Re: Wesband 0.4.4, now with 4 players

Yeah, that's something I should disable until there is ToD in the dungeon (we're planning to have light sources at some point) or until there is combat in the overworld. It's always been my priority to mirror the mainline units as much as possible, but sometimes I don't think that Wesband isn't read...

Re: A relevant article for game developers

In a way, it kind of flies in the face of Wesnoth's game development, but one has to remember that David finished his game when he released it to the public. That doesn't mean he had a 1.0 version out, but it was completely playable. What do you mean? I'm not the foremost expert on BfW pre-history....
