(okay, quickly played through the first few levels of Sceptre of Fire) In Gathering Materials, you have two blueshields which are essentially useless in caves. There's no real plot justification to have them along, either - they could easily have just kicked back in the dwarf city. I'd much rather h...

In my campaign The Sceptre of Fire, there are, in the end, 6 unkillable characters (Rugnur, Alanin, Baglur, Krawg, Thursagan, Durstorn) . Is that too much? Not if I have justifications for all of them - which I do (with the possible exception of Baglur ). Is 6 too much? At the beginning, there is o...

But even in linear campaigns, let's say HttT, I think it'd be reasonable to allow any character to die during at least the final battle. Come on, the army Konrad and friends have massed during the campaign isn't going to desert or lose if Delfador goes and dies. You'd just have a slightly different...

somhow I get the feeling that you mean my camapign... Not in particular, but I do think that six is an awful lot of special characters to have to look after. HttT gets cumbersome at times even with four. You can get away with it more easily when battles have a lot more units, or when terrain's very...

Campaigns and Heroes
I don't know if this has been discussed before, but I've been getting a vague idea about reasons for giving units the lose-scenario-if-they-die flag. The basis of this is: in my opinion, it's unfair on players to require that they keep a unit alive, unless they are given a clear, compelling and pres...

Played up to the point where I have to install those dern saurians. Pretty nice so far. Thoughts: Don't know if this has been mentioned already, but Return of the Legions has a first-level Elvish Lord, the Elvish Initiate. It's considerably tougher than the Elvish Fighter, and has a magical attack, ...

I've been playing around with getting the optimal strategy for The Road Back. Here's the approaches I've considered so far: 1) Take the entire force down to the bridge. If I waited for the whole force, this meant that I met the orcs at the 4-hex forest a little before the bridge; could have advanced...

My (crude) instinct is that although there may be a problem, any fix needs to be handled very carefully. Ghosts and Wraiths (and in the hands of a non-AI player, Shadows) are difficult to deal with as it is. A third, cold-melee option would have, I think, to be worse overall than the Shadow or Wrait...

There's enough orcs in EI to make bowmen non-useless, I think. Obviously it wouldn't make much sense to focus on levelling them, but in caves vs. orcs, when you need a ranged-attack unit that can survive a bit better than a mage, and which you care less about losing... still, I don't think this is a...

More thoughts on the Barrier (if you're not already sick of them): I think the Barrier would be an incredibly useful unit. In any steppe-orc campaign I would make levelling a couple up a high priority. However, I've got another concern with them which I'm not sure has been raised yet. I don't know h...
