An alternative approach to my original idea would be to make the unit have better-than-average for Level 1 stats and relatively low cost, but bump it up to level 4 or 5 to make upkeep painful: bleed gold, rather than HP. Insert usual caveat about experience to opponents here. It would be nifty if y...

Posting Wesnoth
I have posted a link to Wesnoth.org and a few positive words about the 1.0 release in a few forums for other wargames that I play. I don't know if it has much effect but that is not the point. Just glad to share something that is worthwhile.

Re: thoughts after a few days of wesnoth
it seems to me that wesnoth is "hard to learn and even harder to master." Most of the mechanics of Wesnoth are familiar to me from other Turn Based Strategy, not all computer based. But unlike most games wesnoth's learning curve with it's unforgivingly good AI. Easy to learn Hard to be co...

Or you can just use undead and laugh at their damage =) Yes, Skeleton Archers  should have fun with these guys similar cost with 60 vs 10 resistance! Skeletons, Ghouls and even Walking Corpses can take lots of hits with these guys before pounding back with melee. But if I was the Drake/Sauria...

lol, do not underestimate mages and thanks a lot for the tips I agree, mages are great. But they are somewhat situation specific. They are most useful fighting enemies defending terrain with a high defense value(elves in the forest, elusivefoot in villiages, dwarves in mts etc) because of their mag...

I know Bay of Pearls is a tough scenario but try again. You did well with the Mermen but if you want to win you need to win the land war. Here is a few suggestions, I hope I don't offend you. Use Day/Night more to your advantage retreat to saftey or at least a defensive line at night. Don't expose y...

Or maybe only the ones with the lvl 4 upgrades can get it? but give it instead of a *1 out of 20*chance make it a *1 out of 15* chance? What ya think? This makes the  pain  of the loss of one of these units much greater and makes it more likely that people will play poorly, get frustrated...

Lowering level 0 unit's hp or resistances would make not much difference on its own. It'd arguably even make them more effective. I said HP are currently low enough. All else being equal how would making L0's easier to kill make them more effective? Are you saying that they could provide ZOC covera...

Level 0 units should have no upkeep. That is what makes them different. They should have ZOC or they are practically useless. They should have enough attack power to make a difference. Preferably 2 attacks otherwise they are often dead before they get thier hits in. Cost has to stay reasonalble. So ...

Finished the campaign - Contains Spoiler
I just finished SoBE on Medium. :D Great campaign! I like the flow of levels and a chance to use Orcs, Trolls, and a few Saurians! A few things to note: The only level that is very hard is the first one! It took a few restarts, an empahasis on Wolf Riders and luck to win. After that the chal...

While not fond of gemstone Golems I think the concept of golems as a special campaign unit is good. They would make great minions of a neutral mage. As far as being part of multiplayer I do not see any logic or benefit here. Unless someone could put forth a really good argument for Golems in MP then...

I like the idea of a L1 Standard Bearer unit with leadership. It essentially provides leadership only to L0 units(Goblin Spearmen). This seems a logical upgrade path for the Goblin Spearman. They advance and hold up the flag to boost other spearmen. With the right tweaks in the stats this could be a...

I would suggest that much time has been spent balancing the attributes of a mage and much consideration has been made for balance both in campaigns and multiplayer. Having said that you should never find it easy to level up mages because their upgrades are very powerful. Even at level one they are V...

I don't know if this is much help but I checked the walkthrough just now and it is what worked for me when I did it. Recruit 1 castle only of mostly mermen and I think I recalled a griffin and an Elvish Shyde then rush. Don't stop for anything until you are in the fight with the orcs. Don't allow yo...
