Re: Suitability of GPL for assets
So if I want to distribute a photo of a real-life object under GPL, does it mean I have to provide the original object too? ![Laughing :lol2:](./images/smilies/icon_laugh.gif)

Re: Blind leading the blind
A bit of history. It's been around for a while, but your intentions were certainly good. The new part is the steel/rubber/hair pixels. It could provide a new experience... maybe like a difference between grayscale and color displays. One thing to remember, though, is that if you want to present spa...

Re: Support for localized pictures
Instead of splitting an image into a part without text and a part containing only text, perhaps the program should allow to write the text above the image. This way we do not need an imagine containing text, but only the text. I guess in most situations the standard font would be OK -- labels on map...

Re: severely outdated wiki
Why not just work to update one page/section at a time? Maybe a good start would be a wiki template saying "anything below this line is not guaranteed to work in 1.6", put it at the beginning of all WML related pages, and whoever checks a few lines, can put the template a few lines lower,...

Re: Heir to the throne comics
Republishing under different licence is one option. Another one is receiving permission from authors of all used pictures to publish them under different license. (Maybe this is the easier one.) I would like to note that I am not a lawyer, I am just giving my best guess. (And I really hate that we h...

Re: Well done! Loving this game!
If there is an offer of money that developers do not need, maybe this is the right moment to open a Wesnoth marketing department . Free games usually do not have budget for advertising, so maybe Wesnoth could be the first one in this area. The goal would be to get information about Wesnoth...

Re: Pay to play Wesnoth?
asking money for Wesnoth source -- legal (even if you are not the author!) asking money for Wesnoth binaries -- legal asking money for access to Wesnoth multiplayer server -- legal :eng: but also, paying for one copy of Wesnoth source and then uploading it freely on internet -- legal compiling your ...

Re: Heir to the throne comics
GPL allows selling products containing Wesnoth images. The problem is that GPL almost surely does not allow selling products containing Wesnoth images under Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike license. 5. You may convey a work based on the Program, or the modifications to produce i...

Re: Markovchain???
The chain with size 1 generates random results if the same letter appears in different names. For example from "Li's a r" and "Konr a d" it could make a hybrid "Lis' a d" or "Konr a r". The common letters are parts where the words can be separated ("Lis a...

Re: Extend list of players on the server
I think most of the functionality could be provided by adding a text description to each player. Whatever anyone puts in the description, it is their choice. If there is not enough place for this description on screen, just display it as a tooltip for a player. Near player's name only put a very sma...

Re: Locations of savegames and userdata
I'll admit I don't know what actually happens when in XP or Vista you agree to install a program for "all users" instead of "current user" in the installer (provided that the installer has this options): Does it add the shortcuts to just one location where everyone sees them if ...

Wesnoth 1.6 Release Notes
The "Release Notes" pages from the previous versions are gone. :-( Fortunately, these two were archived by the Wayback Machine. Would someone please put them back? http://www.wesnoth.org/start/1.0/ http://www.wesnoth.org/start/1.2/ This one seems gone forever. Or does anyone have a copy? P...

Re: Why English?
Seems to me that the best solution (given all current limitations) for writing a campaign in other language would be this: On your hard disk, make two folders. One will be "My Campaign", other one "My Campaign (development)". Develop in the second folder, in your language. Then c...

Re: Language Support
We use a gettext library (just like many other free software programs do), and I am pretty sure nobody here modified their language detection algorithm. First time when user starts a game, language is automatically detected. Later the language is saved in the user's "preference" file. Each...
