You should replay The South Guard then.The wiki specifically states that's only possible for an elf. I'm not aware of any example of any elven necromancer.

FTR, the bug in the first scenario has been fixed.
Elves and Dwarves will no longer attack the obelisk, you get a message if one of your unit does it, and you lose if your kill it.
