One more quick question, once you gain control of the map(enemy is nearly all defeated), is it considered cheating to hang around the AI base for extra turns and not kill the leader?, to get your units more XP for the next stage. If an ambushed unit loses the attack it would be too hard to kill off fleeing units with a stealth ability. Definitely a possibility, it is hard to say without testing it out. While I do see the way Ambush can be used tactically to throw off an opponents strategy and slow their movement, I do agree with the original posters sentiment that its usefulness is very limited and I believe would definitely benefit from a buff.
