Re: Elvish Shamans vs Mages in HttT

It seems to me that we used entirely different unit compositions for this campaign. In the later stages i barely got any elvish troops. Only units with leadership and marksman abilities. I will only comment on MoL being bad against humans: so are Shaman level ups. MoL can still be used as a backgrou...

Re: Elvish Shamans vs Mages in HttT

I completed this campaign on the hardest difficulty back in the day and it wasn't even that much of a struggle. You clearly just underestimate what raw damage can do. I like how you only mentioned dex after i brought it up. I somewhat get the Sylph vs Great Mage argument, indeed, you can make a poin...

Re: Elvish Shamans vs Mages in HttT

Great Mage is way better on any scenario where the enemies are humans, due to their arcane resistance. Even without resistances, its 50 damage overall vs 64, that is not some small difference, it's quite huge. Looking at unit costs, Great Mage is also a unit of higher value than Sylph. (This is true...

Re: Main Factions Balance

Sure, skill still counts on it a lot, it's just far easier to master than anything else. And it often creates situations where no matter what you do, you are almost certainly doomed or have a decisive advantage (without any RNG involvement).

Re: Elvish Shamans vs Mages in HttT

Up to personal preference. Great Mage deals far more raw damage and that's their main role. A unit being better at it's main role is often more significant, even if the other is superior in everything else. Huntsman is inferior to Ranger in every way and overall, except ranged damage and it's still ...

Re: A question for developers, do we matter ?

Personally i started to discuss balance changes in the recent few months. And, from where i'm standing, the devs were really co-operative and open minded. Of course, this was about balance and not competitive play in general, but the two are connected. I'm sure they realise that better balance will ...

Re: Main Factions Balance

I don't think there is much to restart. Isar's Cross is a good, casual map, it can be learned quickly, it's not too hard, takes little time etc. No wonder it's so popular, because it's indeed very good. It's poorly balanced of course and it shouldn't be used to determine your skill as a player or ma...

Re: Elvish Shamans vs Mages in HttT

In a campaign, especially one as long as this, you'll need both healers and heavy damage dealers. You also have to consider the fact that you can probably reach level 4. I'd say Elvish Sylph and Great Mage are roughly equally good, but have different damage types, so using a mix of the two would be ...

Re: Ladder Era - Competitive 1v1 play on the Ladder of Wesnoth

There are 24 ranked players right now, which might not seem too many. But the low point was roughly a year ago, with 2 or 3 active members for months. I'd say compared to that it's not so terrible now.

Re: can't report won game.

When you play with a new opponent you don't know, it's a good idea to check if they really have a ladder account before the game. Especially if they don't seem to have an idea about Ladder when you ask them. Many casual players will not know that the Ladder even exists and will join when they see an...

Re: A question for developers, do we matter ?

The fact that many player agree on something doesn't mean it's a good change. Balance shouldn't be a democracy.

Re: Happy skeletons in water with a bridge!

I used bridges with deep water on most of the maps i made for this very reason. It's a really good way to buff Undead if you don't want too much fungus on the map. And, of course, it's cool.

Re: The case against the Dwarvish Steelclad/Lord

Wow... I guess we really just left this thread hanging here. Apparently, this was not the only place where we discussed the issue. The reason the conversation ended here is a really simple one: we have won. The developers have been contacted and at this point it's more than likely that the Steelclad...

Re: Dunefolk Rework - Changes In Unit Lines & Base Units

I welcome the burner change. In my opinion it never really worked out as a melee/ranged unit. It always should've focused on the latter. This way it'll deal 9-3 fire damage during the day, just like mages, minus the magic. Which is very much needed against UD.

Re: The case against the Dwarvish Steelclad/Lord

Sounds more like poor scenario design than anything. Not unusual for NR. Leaving a unit overpowered to compensate for a lazy design is not the ideal solution. I would redraw the scenario itself.
