There is already some eras with Samurais and Ninjas, you can find some of them in the Ageless Era and War Of The Gods Add-ons.

There is no definitive "best" player, because how you even determine that ?
No player is best overall in Wesnoth.
For example some players are good in ladder but may suck somewhere else.
A good ladder player can be a bad Mini Maps League or Afterlife player (Two ranked options with data to backup ...

Keenstrike and Skillstrike sound good.
But Deftstrike doesn't sound bad.

I think also that humans with -20 Archane resist was also absolutely fine, it doesn't impact much balance.
Also it made them unique, it showed that the inherent magic "flow" was low, that they are the least innate magical creatures of all.
I would set it back to that percentile.
