I think also that humans with -20 Archane resist was also absolutely fine, it doesn't impact much balance.
Also it made them unique, it showed that the inherent magic "flow" was low, that they are the least innate magical creatures of all.
I would set it back to that percentile.

I think this would even be a good adition to the core default faction, maybe as an option that can be checked.

Adding new campaigns is different from chamging core era elements. I started playing Wesnoth cause the kiss approach. True ppl grow, but there are always new players, that may would find it too overwhelming if the game gets more complicated than it already is. Simple to learn but hard to master. If ...

In that case maybe the game should like branch off. Like a side project, something like Wesnoth hard, reccomended only for masochist players.🤣 Jokes appart, it would it not be easier just to make a mod ? Yes, 1.16 was more balaced, the XP chamges are kinda ok.
I think Arcane resistances are ok, at most maybe some minor changes should be done.
Also some buffs in this version are crazy, like the Trapper one or the ones given to various high level Elves.

This mod is cool, I proposed something similar time ago.
Why not making it also for humanoids ?
Human skinn can range from very fair to very dark, would be nice if they would be a bit different instead of so homogenous.
