Re: Improving my play
Welcome to the game, Peter. Nice to see people taking Wesnoth seriously as a competitive game. I myself started playing this game shortly after quitting the SC2 scene, opting to play games with a little less build order and hard counters and a little more fluidity. I don't know about you, but after ...

Re: Infested Caves
The Dwarves could really use a boost, as they are pretty much no help. I think the scenario could use a little tweaking, but it wouldn't take much to balance the whole thing. I think that whoever is currently in charge of it should just decide whether they want the scenario to be a brawl, or a slip-...

Re: Elvish Rangers vs. Elvish Marksmen
I agree with what a lot of people said: marksmen are your early defence-busting unit. Since they level up so much faster, they are an easier asset to gain than a mage, while filling a similar role. Rangers are fun, don't get me wrong, but marksmen are definitely a useful unit.

Re: A little question: use my leader?
Just work within your comfort level. If you are worried about keeping your leader safe, just play it safe until you think you can arrange your units properly to keep him protected. In the single player campaigns you can be a little more cheeky with a leader, because the AI isn't going to be very bri...

Re: Midcampaign saveloading as cheating
I fail to see what this thread will accomplish that its predecessor could not. With all due respect, is this extremely long and flowery-languaged post intended for anything other than some kind of soapbox for the op to stand on and look intelligent? There is no burning moral dilemma to solve here, n...

Re: What games are you playing right now?
I've been bouncing kind of all over the place. Trackmania has found a bit of my time recently. I picked up "Frozen Synapse" on steam yesterday, and if there are any X-COM fans or just fans of tactical games in general, you should totally check it out. Its really quite good. Another bonus i...

Re: Game Promotion
I was thinking more along the lines of "pyramid marketing scam." Ah! I should have guessed. No, nothing like that. Although, if you are interested in a pyramid scam, I could sign you right up, you would be working directly below me, and as soon as you recruit a couple more people, you'll ...

Re: What are you reading right now?
I am currently finishing "The Terminal State" by Jeff Somners. Its just a fun read. Its the fourth book in a series of distopic gunslinging action sci-fi kinda novels. They're great fun. If you're at all curious, you should check out the first book "The Electric Church." It has g...

Re: New site
Any fan site or possible affiliated site that increases the overall knowledge pool about the game is probably a good idea.
So keep at it, figure out something you want to do that we need, and go to it!

Re: Cheating, difficulty, and a challenge to expert players.
I don't want to cause any waves, but I'm just gonna go out on a limb here and say that this is a silly, unnecessary thread. Play the way you want. If you want to play a campaign dealing with all the bad luck that comes, then do so. If you want to never lose a unit and have to load a lot, do so. It r...

Re: Game Promotion
I think its a great idea to promote the game if you enjoy it. I will be sure to do so even more than the friends that I have already gotten to try it.
Its a pretty cool phenomenon. If everyone gets a couple people to try, and they in turn get a couple to try, it could balloon very quickly.

Re: logic for multiple reactionary attacks???
I think the potential to get bogged down in semantics and false analogies is very high here, and I think we should keep it in mind. The analogies that can be made for either individual units or regiments are plausible, but I think we should keep in mind that they are useful only as a device to ratio...
