Re: what mainline campaign to take on next

Under the Burning Suns gets my recommendation. You might need to save-scum in a few places (I certainly did), but it's worth it. Although some people like them, I personally wouldn't recommend Northern Rebirth (it's more like a battle simulator; there's too many units to control to feel any sense of...

Re: A Northern Village (SP Campaign for 1.12)

Just played it. Scenario 2 was a bit of a head-scratcher and took about 3 or 4 tries. If you reach turn 4 you're probably overwhelmed by undead and toast. Pretty much the only way I beat it was to move half way forwards, then hope that Tanner and Florin could take out two skeletons so that Groat can...

Re: [POLL] What user made campaigns you like most?

A while back on these forums I recommended that BfW received an expansion made of the best campaigns, scenarios, music and utilities. Looks like something like this is happening. Is there any chance you could make this into a download for regular BfW? Yes, I know that you can download the scenarios ...

Re: How hard should hard be?

Actually, they can. 1.13 allows modifications for campaigns too. How? Sure, a player can save-spam or go into debug mode, but isn't that an admission that the scenario was too difficult in the first place. And yes, the end user could "git gud", but that's still a barrier to progression fo...

Re: How hard should hard be?

A better question - and one which should be fundamentally addressed first - is "how easy should easy be?" Remember you might have a fascinating campaign with a great story and lots of interesting challenges, but if I can't complete the first level then I'm not going to see it all, and we'v...

Re: [POLL] What user made campaigns you like most?

The Sojournings of Grog - Very good fun. I'd love to be able to import the characters from UtBS into the final scenario. Swamplings - Best writing of all the scenarios I've played. Should be made mainline. Inky's Quest - Play as a cuttlefish. Interesting change of pace. To Lands Unknown - I never co...

Re: What are the best player-made Campaigns?

Swamplings - Good storytelling and use of humour.
To Lands Unknown - Completely different unit structure, but the sprites look gorgeous.
Soujournings of Grog - Very good troll campaign.

Re: Mainline 'Scenarios' (together with campaigns)

A long time back I suggested that Wesnoth should have an expansion pack which contained the best of the UMC that fit into the Wesnoth timeline. The idea of the expansion pack was that it was not downloaded with the main game and thus could be a larger download than normal. It also wouldn't be limite...

Re: Campaigns order

It would be nice if your actions in one campaign affected the next, so that recurring characters have the same stats, etc. The tutorial ought to lead into HttT in my opinion.

Re: Unlockables and Trophies

Well you can always ignore the trophies. And if they encourage more players onto MP servers, surely that's a good thing, isn't it? Currently the closest things to trophies in the game are the wreaths around completed camapigns and the unit list, which is only revealed when you encounter / use a unit...

As long as it's optional this is fine. If it's mandatory it just a PITA that will put people off.

Re: views on playing defensive in MP

Wouldn't a king of the hill scenario stop this? Just put several objectives in the middle of the map on different terrain types. If you're holding an objective you get 1 point. Get a ceratin amount of points and you win.

Re: Campaign Option

There are times when a turn limit makes no sense from a narrative perspective though. Many scenarios would work better with a turn target rather than a turn limit. Of course, it's feasible that in this situation a tedious player might sit on most of the villages in the game and farm gold and XP, but...

Re: Move units between campaigns

There are a couple of places where this would be great. Taking Konrad from the tutorial straight into the first scenario of Heir to the Throne is a pretty obvious one and wouldn't be unbalancing. Likewise putting the UtBS characters into the final scenario of Soujournings of Grog makes sense.

Re: Reason for Villages healing +8 & Castles/Keeps 0

There are occasions when the villain leaves his castle to heal, at which point I jump a unit on his throne and prevent him from recruiting. Giving keeps a moderate bonus (Leaders only: +2HP and heal poison) might prevent some of these shennanigans.
