Re: Question about Wesnoth Engine's capabilities

I haven't modded (or played, really) Wesnoth for a while, so take this with a grain of salt, but I think #1 & 4 are impossible, #2 would be quite easy, and #3 would be partly possible, but not all of it and it would require some doing. Hopefully this doesn't deter your too much :)

Re: Shouldn't a STONE CASTLE provide more defense than a wooden palisade?

Well seriously for there to be any sort of difference for stone vs wood, destroying castles would have to be a mechanic in the game. Or infiltration maybe. And you might not be able to fight someone in the castle in melee from outside the wall (and vice-versa). And being in the castle might give a b...

Re: Ascension: Developing your factions

So I haven't played your game in a few days mostly because I don't really like those real-time passive incremental PvP kinda games that make you want to log on every half hour to micro manage stuff. A few thoughts: The UI is very bare bones and unintuitive. It's hard to have relevant information and...

Re: Ascension: Developing your factions

Yeah I had gotten that, thanks :) I created an account and tried it out. I have some early feedback if you are interested: What do the stats actually do? They’re not all very obvious… How much do special traits cost and what do they do? Instead of one parchment for everything, maybe have two side by...

Re: Teaching a 3 years old child to draw/paint better

This, first it should be a game, something fun, not a task. For example, my wife draws a lot and has a lot of talent, and she drew since she was a kid, but she had lessons later on in life. Very much this. Becoming "good" at something mostly only happen only if they find said activity to ...

Re: 100% Accuracy. 0% Resistances/Defenses. Effect on Wesnoth?

I agree with Velensk, if you change the founding principles of the system, the stats are 100% irrelevant and you are loosing your time. Define your key elements and build around them, from scratch or by analyzing other games withs similar features (I can't name any off the top of my head because I'v...

Re: How are the Campaigns meant to be played?

My main issue with Wesnoth when first playing is I was approaching it too much as an RPG. I wanted to level up an army, recall my experienced units and not lose them. But Wesnoth is a strategy wargame, you will lose units. Hence recruiting mostly Lv1 meatshields is a must. Also, I didn't realize it ...

Re: Are humans overfeatured?

Well, sure, humans are represented a lot, which makes sense since it is the Battle for Wesnoth , aka a human kingdom. It's kinda like arguing that Harry Potter features too many magic users or too many British people. Sure, BfW features stories about event going on around Wesnoth, but if Wesnothian ...

Re: Add more monster to Battle for Wesnoth?

Weren't there also elementals in Era of Magic? I think that fire wisp sprite might even come from there (the second one at least), but it's been a while so I'm not 100% sure.

Re: Wesnoth2, Wesnoth, Inc, and other things

First off, I haven't read everything and just glanced quickly over the github repository so maybe what I'm saying is already being considered. I remember an art contributor or somebody like this saying once that if they had something to change about Wesnoth, it would be the hex orientation. With the...

Re: Ambush? I think I don't get it.

Also, a unit that is ambushed (stumbles upon an invisible unit) is surprised and looses all its remaining movement points for the turn. It's pretty amazing ZOC, can help slow enemy progression in key areas.

Re: Mgic attack probability ?

The way I've always interpreted this is that magic always hit 100% of the time, but the spells actually fizzle 30% of the time. Although the ingame animations don't necessarily support this and I have no idea what cannon has to say about it, I always thought it was a nice flavour explanation :)

Sorry, english is not my first language. Lighter pupils, okay, why not, but even the irises are not showing in the picture. Or barely. It looks like his eyes are completely white. Looking closely, you can indeed see/guess something like light pupils and irises, but I think it's not apparent enough. ...

Re: Ulfserkers

Pretty much any unit-balancing concerned tested out against the AI is pointless. The AI is stupidly aggressive and disregards many key concepts like time of day. But it's not really because it was botched or the devs didn't care or something, it's just that designing an AI is an insanely complicated...
