It also depends on the scenario. If I think they don't have much chance of surviving then I definitely just recruit new ones.

So the Steelclad was made weaker and its cost increased dramatically, while almost everything else went down? I agree it was a good bargain before but this is a little ridiculous. It has no ranged attack, no special abilities, and awful defense on most terrain.

Is Root of Evil broken? On 1.13.10 the main enemy (Yrialdhe) never moved, so she was easy to surround and kill.

My comment on price changes is just that you need to extensively test the mainline campaigns on medium and hard difficulties if you change the prices. That's where the price of level 2's matter. I get the same crash. (Wesnoth 13.10b, Mac 10.11.6)

Will there be a new release soon? 1.13.8 is frequently crashing during the AI's turn (Mac 10.11.6). I think this is fixed bug 1792 since a unit close to leveling up is always involved.

I've posted it on the gna bug site. I couldn't find the log files. I've tried restarting and I guess something like 10% of the maps fail to give me a keep, so with some patience you can reproduce the problem.

In Wesnoth 1.13.5 Sceptre of Fire - Gathering Materials, my starting position has a 5-hex castle but no keep attached. The leader in the center where I'd expect a keep is on cave/hill terrain. I had the same crash as in the previous post (on a Mac), during turn 15 of Soldier of Wesnoth's The Lion And the Dragon. If anyone ends up here in a search, I got past it by using the debug commands to take over control of the allied computer controlled sides... so things like :droid 5 :droid 6 etc....

I played it on the middle difficulty setting. I thought the balance was good -- challenging but fair. I never got enough gems to make anything but a few useful items did pop up.
