Re: Ladder Site Online...
Just a quick post to say I'm still on it, but I was more busy than I thought this week
In the meantime I wrote a quick & dirty program to simulate a ladder with the various formulas we discussed here. I'll write more about the results as soon as I can.

Re: Ladder Site Online...
We agree on everything, except for maybe the fact that you want to use a modifier to even out the difference in skills between P1 & P2 when we reward/punish the players for their game. In the quote you suggest that it's more fair to give/take x% more elo of the less skilled player and vice vers...

Re: Ladder Site Online...
About having the 2 kind of ratings (team and individual), I always considered it would be 2 different ladders, so there is no misunderstanding about that. However, as you said yourself several times in your last post, they measure totally different things. That's exactly what is bothering me: player...

Re: Ladder Site Online...
When you compare Wesnoth to chess (games length, frequency, etc.), there is one big difference between the 2: chess players are looking at their ELO rating over the course of years, not months. There are already millions of players (or thousands at least) with a meaningful rating they got over the p...

Re: Ladder Site Online...
I wanted to add a post about the drawbacks of the rating system I suggested earlier for a "random" team ladder. First one is obvious and we talked about it already, it's the fact that 2 players used to play with each other are more likely to perform better than 2 strangers. I don't think i...

Re: Ladder Site Online...
The 2vs2 ladder allows anyone to pick whatever teammate he/she wants, and to play a game against 2 others. You could pick me as team mate for one game, and another person for another game, and then maybe me again. You always play with the person you want. You could of course always play with the sa...

Re: Ladder Site Online...
Of course, a 2v2 ladder would have to be a separate ladder. Most of the normal Wesnoth games (read: no survivals or others funky addons) seem to be actually team games. Maybe a 2v2 ladder would drive more people to play on the ladder, and that would be great. If you agree with the way I described th...

Re: Ladder Site Online...
Some thoughts about this ladder. First, thanks a lot for this tool. I wouldn't be enjoying Wesnoth half as much without it. As a newcomer, I could quickly get into good games, learn a lot, meet good players and observe interesting games. The 2 weeks I played before the ladder were a lot of fun, but ...

Re: 1v1 Replays! (THE ARCHIVE)
(L) ladder.subversiva.org (morphine vs Drudares) The game is Loyalists (me) vs Rebels on Hamlets. Besides the fun factor of an aggressive game, it should be interesting, at least for beginners, to see how to take advantage of position, to divide and move your opponent army to your advantage (and pun...

Converting 1.2 maps to 1.4 format
So I got several files I created with the 1.2 Wesnoth editor. Question is simple: how can I convert them easily to the new 1.4 format ? I looked on these forums and the wiki but couldn't find anything to help me.
Just the specifications of the old and new format would be good enough.

A small duel map (updated): Long Island V0.3
Hello everyone! I'm rather new to Wesnoth and so far I had a great time dueling on the normal maps. I was playing around with the map editor and ended up with a small duel map. I'm clearly lacking experience in map making or the game in general, but so far people enjoyed the games on this map more o...
