Re: Serbian Translation (Cyrilic)

Re: Problems about CJK Image Localization
You can make the labels whatever the size you want, and repeat a label as needed. In general, the labeling should be made to look natural in Chinese, as if the map was in Chinese to start with, adjusting whatever is necessary to achieve that. The English original just puts you in the proper context....

Re: Call for localized images
Instructions for making the localized logo have now been updated. Many thanks to Espreon for scrutinizing the procedure and pulling the strings :) Do not miss the note at the end of the logo section. Localized logos have to be passed by Jetrel in order to be committed to the repository. Of the logos...

Re: Changes to maps
[...] don't update your localized overlays until the end of works is announced. The work on maps is now done, so you may start updating overlays. When you check the differences between old and new maps (as explained in my previous message), among other things you will also notice that label parchme...

Re: Call for localized images
[...] I had to adjust the lightness-contrast to 90 - 70 to get the same effect as the original. I think it should be noted on the wiki page. My GIMP version is 2.4.7. Added this to the article. data/core/images/help/tooltip.png Sure looks German to me. ...or some strange mix thereof :) Well, if som...

Changes to maps
There is some work going on to clean up some of the maps, so some of the existing localized overlays have been fuzzied. At this point, it seems that the only substantial change is moved "Bitter Swamp" label on some of the maps, but other things may change too. So don't update your localize...

Call for localized images
Some time ago Wesnoth's code was patched to enable use of localized images, for any image for which this is needed by target language. Now would be good time to start adding some localized images, since 1.8 release is getting nearer. Here are the instructions on making and testing localized images: ...

Re: What you should know to make your campaign easy to translate
Yes, that's a classical problem. In Serbian we use a slightly old-fashioned/very literary form of past tense, which unlike the more usual form, happens not to depend on gender of the speaker. Within current Gettext framework, the general solution to this would be to introduce a way to get unit gende...

Re: Support for localized pictures
[...] perhaps the program should allow to write the text above the image. This way we do not need an imagine containing text, but only the text. I guess in most situations the standard font would be OK -- labels on maps, texts in speech bubbles. There was this suggestion floating around, but judgin...

Suitability of GPL for assets
All of this said, I wouldn't have anything against dual-licensing our music under something like CC:Attribution in addition to the GPL. I know that I tend to write too long messages, but I think this needs clearing up: GPL on music and graphics is either not applicable, or not enforcable in Wesnoth...

Re: Wesnoth music and the future
As for the licensing of music (or any other "non-code" data), I would make two observations based on such discussions so far. Firstly, making it very precise is probably not going to help contributions, as many non-code contributors seem to have own impression of what can be done with the ...

Right, screenshots are no-brainer. (Even so, I wrote in the above article a few points on them, to fend off what-can-go-wrong-will rule.)

Re: Support for localized pictures
Of the existing images, logo and maps are rather well covered. We have a standalone shield of the logo, and maps as layered images in branches/resources/cartography-tools . The only other in-game images with text (aside from help screenshots) are the TRoW writings in data/campaigns/The_Rise_Of_Wesno...

Re: Splitting translations?
The main problem here is that, for compatibility reasons, Wesnoth POs are not merged using --previous option. I've inquired about it here last year: http://www.wesnoth.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=20397 Perhaps the compatibility issues have vanished in the meantime? (I personally merge POs loca...

Re: Translating images?
Spring time again, I finally made time to give another push to this. Regarding the difficulty of translators producing localized images, I wrote this test article: http://www.wesnoth.org/wiki/User_talk:Caslav.ilic/ImageLocalization which happened to have been already picked up, before I completely f...
