It is not like deep water where everyone has one unit or a few (drakes and undead) which can do a good job of holding their own against the others, and the main forces cannot engage in this environment. In mountains, most every unit wielding most every attack type and resistance can access the hill...

What is wrong with allowing HI to move 1 tile over mountains? What would this imbalance? i think adding fearless is a mistake because it simply makes the heavy infantry better at what it already does well, which is fight skeletons. now it can fight skeletons even better at night if it rolls a fearless trait, but fighting skeletons was never an issue. do we want to broaden its usefulness...

the advantage the heavy infantries have is that they are good on "civilized" terrain like villages and castle. wose are weak on these terrains. i think part of the problem with heavy infantry is that their low movement type combined with their inability to move on certain surfaces makes them useless...

thanks for the interesting comments, guys. the trapper is definitely not a good level 2 or a starting hero. he has 5 movement, but if those first few moves have any forest or hill terrain in between, then you may as well have a dwarf with 4 movement and x1 over hills and forests. the trapper is weak...

hey guys, thanks for the feedback. just wanted to reiterate that my original points were not just that the poacher is fairly weak in terms of its cost compared to costs of similar units on other teams that have similar function, such as an elvish fighter, but also that the poacher's uses are eclipse...

has there lately been any consideration of the poacher by developers as new versions of wesnoth come out? each time a new version comes out, i am eager to see if this unit has been changed.
