Goblins are not too helpful against the skirmishers, I agree. But, against a force with a higher concentration of actual drakes, they can be helpful. Their ranged attack is weak, true, but it is stronger then nearly all other northerners. And, if a couple get up to be impalers, then they are a great...

Wesnoth 1.1.4 - memory issues?
I spent several hours trying (emphisis on trying) to play the Home of the North Elves scenario in HttT today (version 1.1.4, windows binary), and its been painful. Its been taking 30+ minutes for one turn of the AI. I just checked the process list for my machine and Wesnoth.exe is listed as using an...

I'd say red. Shydes are (IMO) superior to Mages of Light, and even though it can take a bit of work to get a shyde, I generally have one druid and one almost-druid going into Isle of Anduin. The only areas where MoL's beat shydes are undead killing and when backing up lawful units, but in HttT most ...

(1) What difficulty levels and game versions have you played the scenario on? Just completed it in 1.1.4, medium difficulty. (Due to a reported (and fixed?) bug in version 1.1.4, Delfador and Kalenz were not present - they dissapeared after Dwarven Doors, so the scenario was done without them) (2) H...

One idea I have reading this. Do you have the accelerated speed option on? If you are comparing to 1.1.2a, you should note that in that the windows binary for that one had the accelerated speed option was on by default, but if I recall correctly it isn't in the windows installer for 1.1.4. If its a ...

1.1.4, HttT Plunging into the Darkness
I get an error message when I try to start the HttT scenario Plunging into Darkness (WinXP). It says assertion failed! Program C:\program files\Wesnoth\Wesnoth.exe File C:\Entwicklung\Wesnoth\wesnoth-1.1.4...\unit_map.cpp line 55 Expression: res.second This error comes up twice in a row. I can ignor...

Depending on the units you use, the xp they gain can be worth a lot of gold. With the HttT units, keep in mind that a shaman costs 15, an archer 17 and a scout 19. For each of those, even only 5 XP or so can make recalling them worth it in some cases - Shaman are difficult to get XP for, since killi...

HttT 1.1.4 campaign map
I've started going through HttT on 1.1.4 (windows), and noticed a couple tihngs with regard to the campaign map which comes up in between scenarios. In previous versions, your location and route of travel was overlayed on the map, but it doesn't seem to be happening in 1.1.4. Was this feature remove...

Blocking tricks like that can work well if the terrain is right. I used it in the sceptre of fire mission in Heir to the Throne - send Konrad one way, Lisar the other, and block off any other approaches with guardsmen backed up by shydes. Another case of this working - and the limitations of it, tho...

Well, I'll be glad to do 1.1.2 tests with this, but I can't seem to get the SVN to compile on Windows. I thought I followed Xan's steps correctly, but it looks like something is missing. I either get a compile error on tools\key_test.cpp, or a huge mountain of linker errors. Sorry I can't help more.

Strategy can work (at least when I last played it in 1.02). Took Lisar (with the sceptor), Kalenz, Delfador and a grand knight brought over from Test of the Clans straight south right away. They slipped around the enemy army which was distracted, and then rushed right at the queen. Charge from the k...

kshinji - that's not totally correct, because of the actual damage reduction the two units have. In most situations, the fencer is taking, on average, the same damage as the HI. HI and fencer have equal holy resistance. HI is -10% to fire/cold, while the fencer is 0. But, given as how most fire atta...
