Freedom Respecting Software Gaming needs a Discourse Community.
I've been thinking a lot lately about the tools we use to communicate with one another, and something really struck me as problem with our current situation. While minetest has a great forum culture, it doesn't really generalize to other freedom respecting software games with smaller communities, es...

Re: "A Gryphon's Tale" campaign
I remember this campaign. It was one of my favorites. I guess it was a victim of engine creep.

Re: Career Choices after Undergraduate Studies in Electrical Engineering
On second thought, the most important thing is to get to know as many people as possible and stay in touch with them after college. Your jobs are going to come from acquaintances in your network. Skills aren't really that important. It doesn't matter if you have ten phds in math, if no one likes you...

Re: Did the creators of this game work on the sprites of the soldiers or were they for free for people to use?
Yeah, actually, they were all made explicitly for this game and many many artworks that were not good enough were turned down, and several of the portraits with through several revisions until with come up with this complex pseudo-realistic style that took several hours for a top notch professionall...

Re: older ones all gone?
Its been a while since I have played Battle for Wesnoth, years actually. I don't know why I came back here. I guess to be a pain. I feel like a lot that has gone on with this game is "turd polishing." like it is a nice and shinny turd filled with "quality" but a turd none the les...

http://retux.nongnu.org/ -Retux a great platformer (easier than supertux) https://sourceforge.net/projects/apz/ (adventures on planet Zephulor, I haven't played in a while, but I have fond memories, I just wish someone would polish it. www.wograld.org - alright, I'll admit this is my project, but it...

Are Programers inherently better game designers?
Do you think that programmers are inherently better game designers than say artists? writers? music composers? bug reporters? I know obviously game design is a complex thing and includes level design. Game design also encompasses all of those disciplines (code, art, music, writing etc) and more, but I...

Re: Career Choices after Undergraduate Studies in Electrical Engineering
It sounds like you enjoy software. Stick with the software stuff. Keep your skills current and up to date. I highly advise working on something like Wograld, and putting skills to practical use because the moment you forget about things like git and the latest version of Java.. you will be getting b...

Whatever happened to Hero of Allacrost?
I've noticed the site is down, taken offline for some reason it looks like. I've also noticed the project on sourceforge seems very inactive for some reason. (As in no development work going on) Did everyone just up and abandon it?

Hale an awesome new Balder's Gate like game.
Okay, first of all, Hale is not my game, as in I did not have any hand in developing it. It is written in Java so I don't have to worry about broke SDL libraries or any dependency hunts. Given the tiny size of the development team (less developers than wograld at the moment) however, I doubt most of...

Re: Attracting and keeping artists on an OSS game project
Honestly, I don't think graphics are going to make or break a game like The Mana World so as long as they stick to the secret of mana style. I used to really hate that game because of dependancy hunt. The things it probably needs are better storyline, better music and sound effects, and also better ...

Re: By text-based strategy game+source code. Please comment.
It compiles and runs, and it saves, but for some reason when I try to load the save it crashes.
Other than that though it is pretty good for a small text based game.

Re: Hero of Allacrost - RPG project with well-developed engine
I still can't get allacrost installed. I don't understand why everyone tries to develop games from scratch, why don't they just take an already working game and modify it until it does what is desired. My latest error (on Fedora 10, I tried to install a later version but it didn't work) checking for...
