Prehistory - 20 YW: The Founding of Wesnoth |
|||||||
Summary |
Men and orcs are the original inhabitants
of the Green Isle. During this era, some groups of men, like the
Wesfolk and Islefolk, migrate to the Green Isle. The Orcs later follow
them. |
The Green Isle began as an uninhabited
land, except for the Woses. In this era, the Islefolk, later the
Wesfolk, and last the Orcs, arrive on the isle. Then the Islefolk, led
by Prince Haldric, migrate to the Great Continent. Then the Orcs and
Wesfolk follow them. |
Morogor, a volcanic island chain, is
inhabited by the drakes. As the men and orcs pass through Morogor, they
war with the Drakes. The island of Morogor appears to be slowly
sinking, but it has not yet disappeared. |
The Elves of the Wesmere Forest live a
relatively peaceful existence, although they war occasionally with the
Dwarves. However, after the Islefolk arrive, they must war with Orcs to
preserve their existence. The Islefolk are granted some of the land
that the Elves do not inhabit, and rename themselves the Wesnothians. |
The dwarves are at first the sole
inhabitants of the northern lands. After the orcs arrive on the Great
Continent, the dwarves are somewhat marginalized. The two end the era
sharing the region. |
The
south- western Elves have already settled their traditional homeland, but they have little contact with the other countries. |
The eastern lands are uninhabited at this
time. |

|||||||
Summary |
??? |
Some Wesfolk still remain on the Green
Isle, but they cannot survive against the orcish invaders. When
Meneldur the Mariner arrives, they take the opportunity to leave the
Isle. The orcs are left in sole posession of the isle. |
The isle of Morogor is still above water
when Meneldur lands on it, but it is suspected to have disappeared
sometime during this era. As sailing techniques improve, isolated
islands are increasingly visited. |
This era is that in which Wesnoth expanded
and defined its borders. The era is marked by friction between the
city-state of Elensefar, founded by the Wesfolk who aligned with
Haldric, and the country of Wesnoth, founded by Haldric himself. It is
exacerbated when Meneldur fights with Wesnoth's ships on his quest to
retake Elensefar from Orcs. |
The orcs prove to be strong opponents,
managing to sack the city of Elensefar and push the dwarves deeper into
their underground caverns. They also force the Elves of Wesmere to
retreat deeper into their forest. There is also some civil war among
the elves, as they deate over whether Wesnoth is to be trusted. |
The southern elves are relatively peaceful. |
The Wesfolk who were members of the second
migration traveled down the Great River until they came to the eastern
desert and the oasis that spawns the river. They settled the area
around the Oasis, and became the Kedari. |

200-349 YW: The Golden Age of Wesnoth |
|||||||
Summary |
??? |
??? |
??? |
The Golden Age is a time of the great
kings of Wesnoth, and of prosperity and peace within the country. The
army was lessened due to a smaller orcish threat, so the kings were
able to undertake the great public works they are renowned for. It ends
when the king of Wesnoth dies with no heir. |
The Orcs, having been defeated by Meneldur
in 124 YW and again by the Tower of Magi in 160 YW, pose no real threat
to any of the civilized countries. |
The elves and the people of Wesnoth come
to an agreement of non-agression. |
The Kedari continue to grow in power, but
are limited by Wesnoth to the west and the great desert to the east. |

??? |
When Haldric IV died with no heir, he left
Wesnoth to descend into civil war. The next 90 years were marked by
short-lived dynasties, attacks by ever more aggressive orcs, and
continued friction between Wesnoth and Elensefar. |

440-529 YW: The Turmoil of Asheviere King Garard's dynasty was long-lived, but its first eighty years of existence made observers at the time believe that would not be so. The first king suffered a very destructive undead attack, and the second was murdered by his own wife and son. It was only until 519 that Konrad I was able to wrest the throne from the Queen Mother Asheviere. After Konrad I took the throne, though, the turmoil ended, and Wesnoth entered its next era. |

Summary |

??? | ??? | In Wesnoth itself, the era was relatively
uneventful for the first 90 years of the era. However, the actions of
Ravanal in Wesnoth were later seen to have had a disturbing
significance, and in the last 10 years of the era, Mal-Ravanal attacked
Wesnoth. This attack was one of the strongest ever of Undead, and
Wesnothw as nearly destroyed. Wesnoth was laid barren by Mal-Ravanal,
most of the great building in and out of Weldyn were razed, and the
population was half what is once was. |
In
this era, certain areas of the chaotic Northlands were
for the first time put into a kind of law and order. In the year 534 YW,
a small body of humans and dwarves, and anyone of any race who
wished to join, formed into the
"Northern Alliance”, with the vision of making the Northlands safe to
live in. Over time, this alliance grew slowly but steadily in power. By
the end of the era, the alliance had succeeded in making a few small
areas, including Knalga and the surrounding regions, stable and
prosperous. |
