Looking for Help with Unit Shading and Colour

Post by WalkingCorpse » July 2nd, 2018, 5:54 pm

Hello.
I'm fairly new to pixel art, though I've tried making some things before, and never made anything for Wesnoth.
I'm looking for help with my new faction of Gnomes that I'm trying to make.
The only unit I have so far, the Gnome Knight-In-Training, needs a lot of work on its shading and colours, but I don't know how to fix it.
Any suggestions or help would be greatly appreciated.

First edition compared with Master-at-Arms:

Hello there.
first of all, I can see that this is not your first pixel artwork.
However, In my opinion, this is far from looking wesnoth-ish.

Here are some halflings/gnomes from WotG era compilation, which I think are good references if you want to make wesnoth-ish gnomes, body proportions and body form wise.

about the shading: I think we use in wesnoth different style of shading (i think it is called pillow shading) where you have fewer shade colors covering bigger areas of pixels, where as you have a lot of gradual colours covering small areas. U can see that on the Master of Arms' coat.

other then that. the shield and sword are not very clear. legs and arms are maybe too thin.
