British Library Images

Post by Heindal »

Bart from opengameart.org found a pretty nice link, I'd like to share.

https://www.flickr.com/photos/britishlibrary

This is the flickr account of the British Library. It offers a lot of images under public domain.
Some of these pictures could be used in addons, especially when it comes to story pictures.

Little disadvantage, you might need a flickr acount to download these .

Looks cool.

You don't need a flickr account to download them. You can use these tricks:
1. Screenshot the image, crop it.
2. Browser will keep the image in cache, finds its cache on disk and use search to look for recent .jpg files.
3. Open the page source and use search to look for the .jpg pattern, the first match is the image:

Good article about free images is here:

http://wptavern.com/13-sources-for-free ... sed-images

" I was able to locate 13 high quality sources for finding images that are suitable for inclusion in GPL-licensed works. All of the following sites explicitly state a Public Domain or CC0 license for the images collected".

I myself use Pixabay mostly.
British library is on the list of this 13 too as Public Domain.

Nice collection. It still misses opengameart.org and openbundle.org.

The Smithsonian Open Access offers more than 2,8 million items (images in 2D and 3D art), which can be used for free.

https://www.si.edu/openaccess

Most items of the collection are listed under a Creative Commons Zero license, however some of the images might not be Creative Common.

Watch for the creative common logo and read https://www.si.edu/termsofuse, which items can be used, and which not.
Here you see the CC0 Logo, if that is shown, it is ok to use it.

If you want to know more about CC0 check: https://creativecommons.org/publicdomain/zero/1.0/

Happy research. :eng: ;)
