Etiquette on using Official Portraits in UMC

Post by Luke the Flaming »

(I am not sure if a different sub-forum would have been a better fit; in that case, sorry & move this thread there, if possible.)

UMC = user-made content; that is, the campaigns (and more) that are not "mainline" (included with Wesnoth when you install it).

The portrait would be used for a different character/story (example: I am not talking about user-made "young Chantal" that would recycle Chantal's portrait; it'd another Shyde in a totally different context).

I know that it can be done, but is it considered "rude" or "confusing" or whatever?

Thanks for any clarification!

Perhaps confusing at first to people who have seen the portrait used in a different context, but otherwise there wouldn't be any problem with using it.

I, as a user, would not mind, but for main characters it may indeed be confusing.

Ideally art could exist for all non-default mainline campaigns.

Some of the add-ons are even better than the mainline campaigns too. However
had, art work such as portraits, while nice to see, is secondary to me - gameplay
is more important. (I don't even have music on; tend to just listen to youtube
or radio stations and what not.)

Edit: Actually I think there are some secondary add-ons relating to the main
theme, like that grog campaign... that big troll dude, I forgot his name. These
add-ons should ideally be merged into the mainline one day - always fun to
have a longer storyline for the main variants going.
